Re: roller gun question

The thinest I would go with a 2 band gun out of paduk would be around 1 3/8" t x 1 1/2" w . If you don't a large hole for the roller band , if you do it will need to be at least 1 1/2 t. Any thiner and you get flexy and run out of room for hardwear.

Re: roller gun question

WOW. That is a piece of work. How does that thing shoot? Recoil? Distance? Nice Gun. I will say I do get nervous at the way that Outer Fixed Band is attached. The consequence of a failure on that join could be terrible. Is that Outer Edge of the Muzzle Carbon? Or is there some kind of Metal Frame within there that we don't see?

Re: roller gun question

Well, I don't have much info about that gun. I got the pics from a spanish forum.
It will be out for sale in a couple of months, since is a prototipe and is under trials.

Apparently, there is a new trend of rollergun builders at that side of the world, and some of them came out REALLY nice. Like this one.

Re: roller gun question

wow Marco eso se ve exotico, dejanos saber cual quier informacion sobre eso. Marco that gun has a reverse trigger mech with a 3 fin shaft, I just noticed that the band pull is not at it's max.

Noob question but what are the advantages to roller guns vs regular non roller gun specifically railguns as oppose to this hybrid.

Re: roller gun question

I would say the biggest advantage is more power for a given length of gun since the band is longer for a given length of gun. Part of it is the longer band, but another part is that, since the band is stretched underneath, the shaft accellerates during it's entire travel down the gun. They are a little more complicated to build, however.

Re: roller gun question

That and also that the recoil is minimum due to a progressive power transmission.

The one in the picture is nice, but must see a 85 cm that a friend of mine made. It launches a 9/32" shaft at ultrasonic speed!

I will ask him if I can post a short vid here.

Re: roller gun question

One problem with Roller guns I've encountered is that it becomes difficult to load a longer Roller gun? With a standard Band gun once you get into the longer guns, they are already tricky to load, but you have a long band hanging back at you. I can't seem to get around how to load a Long Rollergun. What's the longest Rollergun anyone has used? How did you load it?

Re: roller gun question

Ok, I talked to my friend and he authorized me to post his videos.

Here is one showing the speed of the shaft in a 85 cm:

The lever operated rollergun dates back to 1949, that is when the French patent for the "Hurricane" brand rollergun was taken out. Jack Prodanovich's work was more recent. Here is one of the earliest American made prototypes made on a US aircraft carrier. The rubber elongation on the lever can be adjusted for power settings.
