Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Freedove today out of NPR. 25 ft on patch reefs. Current was ripping until about 4:30pm. Once the current stopped we got back in. Vis was very close to TTB. but was about 20-22ft. Hogfish and grunts were prevelant. Saw one nice red and one nice gag. Everything else was very small. Water warming up should push a lot of the bigger fish a bit deeper.

Nearly top to bottom out of John's Pass. Could read the writing on a wetsuit hovering 70' above dive buddy. Only about a hazy 10' horizontal once we got down to 100'. Surface temps were 76. Thermocline at about 15' and bottom temp at 100' was still a chilly 64*. Like Ben said, not super fishy. Lots of mangos and a couple ok hogs.

Saw the coolest thing about 35 mi out... About 30-40 dolphins - bottle and spotted- in a huge pod. We played with them for a while. Seriously have never ever seen that many porpoises at one time. Hell... It may have been more than I've ever seen before combined. I'll try and post up a video.

Couldn't have been flatter... Could have water skied from 100' in to about 40'. Hopefully it holds for next weekend.

Neighbor of mine and dive buddies went out yesterday to the RJ - flat calm, great viz, but they only brought back a few mangos, decent number of hogs, saw some decent reds and gags, but no AJs. One shark seen but he's the resident one there.

Last time I went out (and honestly now the last few times) I've seen very large pods of dolphins as well, and they were very curious and playful. Hopefully that is a good sign.

Going out tomorrow with SealRock and going to hit the ledges and artificials 12 miles off Tarpon.

Cannot wait! We may have to reevaluate hitting some wrecks with vis like that. GoPro time.

I think once we hit that ledge of mine you might want to just stay there, but we'll see - you never know what you might find. I'm also wondering about finding some good bottom and structure NEAR some of the artificial and wreck sites vs. dropping directly down on the well-hunted wrecks.

Re: Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Freedove out of johns pass 40-45 ft viz was stellar but the current kicked our butts all day. We did manage some very nice hogs and mangos though.

Current Vis - Tampa Bay Region (Homosassa to Sarasota)

Flew in last night and Anclote looked like the Caribbean! Excellent dive today with the crew at Veterans Reef. We literally picked our anchor spot by driving around and looking at the bottom thanks to the depth finder that went tango uniform. My computer showed a surface temp of 77 and 72 on the bottom at 40'. Horizontal visibility varied from 40 to 80+ at times.

The forecast stated 2' swells, I would agree with that but add in moderate chop. White caps would roll past the boat on ocassion while at anchor. Light current at the surface.
