Arriving to Australia
Hi,
My name is Alex, ( from Corsica ) I use to practice spearfishing in Australia 10 years ago, in Bondi Beach, Manly and on the great barrier reef. I plane to come to Sydney first pretty soon I Hope ( February ), And I'am happy if you have some advise for me about legislation, restricted area and if there is some spearmate? I also plane to go up to Cairns and may be to Perth

Re: Arriving to Australia
Make sure you get a licence if needed and don't spear in protected areas or shoot protected fish or sharks. There's great diving only an hour south of Sydney or a few hours north, but also local if you know where to go (I don't). Plenty of tasty jewfish, morwong, mackerel, dolphin fish, snapper etc.. Just dive where you think the fishing pressure will be lower. Think outside the box.
NSW http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/...l/publications http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/...-primefact-992 Perth is much better than Sydney, better reef fish species (in my opinion), and you don't need to go as far to catch them. Try WA Undersea Club, join and you will be rewarded with the benefits of spearfishing buddies and tips of where to dive and for what. WA http://www.fish.wa.gov.au/Fishing-an...s/default.aspx |

Re: Arriving to Australia
Mate also try the local forums. Extremespearfishing and spearoz. Ive just moved out of Sydney so i would have shown you around otherwise.
Yes you need a licence in NSW and check the rules as has been suggested. You can get good fish from the shore in Sydney. This time of year popular targets are yellowtail kingfish and bonito. But I hear dive conditions have been bad in Sydney most of the summer. Im in Perth at the moment. And ive found diving from shore is difficult due to marine parks and shallow water. |

Re: Arriving to Australia
Also bondi is good diving but stay away from the beach as there are people who want to stop spearing in that area. South maroubra & long bsy are nearby and also good diving. Good luck
