Monster tickle stick
I saw some tickle sticks in Fort Pierce made from what looks like the pole you would use to clean your pool. They had a huge piece of wire epoxied in at the end. Anyone have a clue on what type of wire they used? Can't find an example online...

Re: Monster tickle stick
I'd bet it was something like #4 bare copper, which is readily available at Home Depot.

Re: Monster tickle stick
It wasn't copper, fairly rigid and fashioned into a bent loop.... but I will give this a try!

Re: Monster tickle stick
#4 solid bare copper is very rigid, and turns dark brown with exposure. Good luck!

Re: Monster tickle stick
Lobster snare probably stranded stainless. Should have a draw string running from loop up to end.

Re: Monster tickle stick
So is there a particular type/brand of extendable painter's pole that is durable / doesn't corrode shut / doesn't float (or fills / drains water easily)?

Re: Monster tickle stick
I think I got mine from Ace hardware. All the stickers have worn off. I've had it for about 4 years and it's held up good. The cheaper Home Depot ones if I remember right only lasted a season.

Re: Monster tickle stick
Fiberglass or aluminum extendable pole? Or combination?

Re: Monster tickle stick
I'm sure the fiberglass ones would work but I've always used the $15-$20 aluminum ones.

Re: Monster tickle stick
I used these only I dont think mine were spring loaded. I never made a lobster snare out of them but I epoxied a foot on one for poling my gheenoe and I also use one for my dive flag. They have held up for at least 5 years in the salt environment. That will be one big ass lobster snare.
How would you use it? I have made smaller tickle sticks with a snare on one end. Ive used cable from home depot but 400# mono seems to work better for us. I always preferred a net anyways, |
