Re: Blue Water Battles
The devotion, time, effort and $$$$ Dan and Ricky put into making a magical trip like this happen is beyond love for what they do. Dan spends days locked in the compressor room mixing the custom mixes for each dive, for each person, for every day. The shear responsibility that rides on his shoulders is tremendous. Considering what it takes as far as logistics for making a trip like this happen....... well I can honestly say that shooting them is by far the least challenging of what it takes to put fish like this on the boat.
Congratulations my friend..... Just when I think there is no way you can top last years trip, you redefine "Epic". Thanks for all that you do to keep the safari going and keeping us all returning in one piece.

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of scuba spearfishing, but you guys are VERY good at what you do. I take my hat off.

OMG.... The knowledge, experience, technique and safety considerations behind such a trip are as monstruous as your groupers.... Of course you are also "the fastest on the draw " :-)

Re: Blue Water Battles
Kenny got another video ready. This ones a little different. Randy had free shafted a big Black on a steel wreck in 250'. He'd gotten a really good head shot on it but due to time constraints was unable to pull it out.
Kenny and I decided to dive it and try and retrieve the fish. We had to wait about an hour to get into a half decent deco status. The sun was touching the water when we splashed and it was night thirty during the dive. I remember thinking on the way down, 3 minutes to locate, subdue and leave with a big Black in the dark. Really? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6JRW...ature=youtu.be

Re: Blue Water Battles
You guys had to be really dialed in for that one. I know Ricky had to be a little nervy clock watching till yall surfaced. Those night time pick ups and assents make everybody glad to hit the deck. Awesome recovery. Glad everything turned out safely. Thanks for another great video.

Re: Blue Water Battles
Epic trip guys!
I can't imagine a better trip taking place anywhere on the globe. I'd be down with just trolling for the BF tuna and Wahoo. I'm hoping TS Debbie's SW winds will blow some of that blue water in a little closer. Trying to decide between running west of the MG's or SW of the Elbow. Were you guys west or south of the MG's? Also curious as to what the Wahoo ate. Any advice? |

Re: Blue Water Battles
Wahoo hit in around 240', lure was a Rapala red/white broken back pulled at 7k. Pelagics were thick on the 40 Break before Debby. Who knows now?? I imagine it'll look like the Mississippi for a long time after the storm goes away.
