Re: New snorkel 22% more breath hold, bs?

A simple free diving snorkel gets the job done well and cost much less than this gimmick snorkel.

This. No need to reinvent the wheel. Everyone loves to build the better mousetrap, but sometimes simplicity and time tested tradition is the way to get it done.

I only see this rig benefiting new and inexperienced divers, i.e. those who panic in the water and those who shallow breathe without thinking.

Calm down, take regular even deep breaths, and you won't have any problems. Avoid hyperventilating and shallow breaths to begin with. Everyone with any sense in the water should know that.

A snorkel is a necessary evil for freedivers. Low drag is the key. Notice the Trubridge quote, it is the "Bentley of snorkeling", not of freediving, two very different activies.

"For breathing on the surface it is luxurious"
That says it all.

Where else will u use a snorkel if not at the surface? Everyone has gear they prefer to use that's comfortable for them... Sure a regular j might be that for someone, but i find it very annoying to keep clearing and being conscious trying not to drink half the ocean on a dive especially in wavy waters...

I only achieved a 19.23% increase in my breath hold so I returned it and got my money back.

Yeah, competition divers who use snorkels (as oppossed to breathing up on their backs) always have them tied to a surface float and spit them out before descent...

This is why I actually breathe up in my BENTLEY before I dive down. The oak paneling and posh leather are just so relaxing that I find my breath hold increases enormously.

I actually have a snorkel around here somewhere that operated on a similar principle: separate channels for air in and air out. It was bulky and awkward and hand no impact whatsoever on my ability to hold my breath or the perceived quality of the air I was breathing.

I breathe out through my nose for the last couple of breaths anyways. I can't be the only one who thought of this?

You may only use it at the surface, but you have to drag it around with you your entire dive.
