Re: What type of grouper is this

If anyone else were to post and say this I would call BS however I know you have been around the block far longer than myself. I will now be digging through old pictures of mystics tonight. I have never seen one that did not have 9 bars on it and I have seen over a thousand fish. No chance of it being a different gene pool of Warsaw? Some have slightly different nostrils possibly. Of course a small part of me thinks you are just F'ing with us lol.

rule out snowies and warsaws. I had to get two second opinions on this fish as it was to hard for me to tell.

I have speared several large Mistics just to the north of Jupiter inlet out in 140 to 150 feet of water during very cold water up welling. They are very curious fish and will get right up in front of you under water. Every time I thought I was pulling the trigger on large Warsaw grouper. Only after surfacing and looking at the fish on ice did I figure out what it really was.
Wow!

so you are saying it is this WITHOUT the bars? Amazing

Good one

Re: What type of grouper is this

The head slope and body look too tall and warsaw-like for me to climb aboard the stripeless mystic train...
