Re: .... Thump - One and done

It was one of our last drops of the day.....

We had battled Cobia all morning and loaded the boat with a few monsters. Rob shot one that went 65+. The bulls definitely had their eyes on it... it had thoughts of tying us up like a hostage on the train tracks... in the end with some quick thinking from the boat and some good coordination we had it in the boat.

I had one that was far less glorious and required the skills of John and Laura to subdue... 5 shafts... one fish... the mythical porcupine cobia.

**Complete with tanks **

Oh ya... it was our last drop of the day. Rob and I dropped in on one of our favorite wrecks in 250+ We had built up almost 0 nitrogen.. so we had about 1.5 minutes of bottom time...

It was late so it was VERY dark down there. Rob took to the right side of the wreck and I took to the left. there were a number of smaller cubera and such milling about. I looked over to see him on the move after a monster. I paralleled him and we pushed the fish towards the bow. There is a large tower by the cargo bay and it has several great hiding spots these guys love.

As we neared the tower... I got ready for a shot. The fish rounded the back of the tower... worried about getting shot from behind and came full speed around and swam straight into my line of sight. From about 4-5 feet away... Thwak... I was aiming dead center on it... it was moving fast and the shot ended up about six inches behind the eyes... Went about 4 inches into the fish... and he rolled.

We quickly jumped on him .. but he was done.. the shaft hit him just right.

Re: .... Thump - One and done

Glyph, had that not been a stone, would 1.5 min of bottom time have been enough time to extract him on the same dive or do you do a 2nd dive to retrieve him?
