Very nice boat lots of dead fish came on board that boat! My buddy bought it from the original owner, Who outfitted it on his own. He sold it and bought a brand new 29' hull from Radon. Scotty

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
I have been a huge fan of this blog for sometime now. I wanted to share the story of my first ever re-build of a 15ft Radon.
My Dad in the late 80's with his 15ft Radon. Picked this one up in April of 2015. Looks ok from far, but this boat needed a lot of work. Let the grinding begin! Old transom The rails were made of foam and were completely rotted and waterlogged. Spencer Davis giving a glassing lesson. New rails and gussets The bow had to go. The deck inside the cabin was rotted and the foam underneath the deck was rotted and super waterlogged. Template for the new bow |

New reinforced transom.
Coming along New stringers for the deck inside the cabin. Prepping for new foam and deck. For peace of mind I decided to rip up the whole back deck. This is when I caved in and hired some extra help. New windshield. New stringers for the deck. Adding the foam under the back deck. Had to keep it original with the surfboard foam! New decks! |

Re: California Dive Boats -- the legend of Radon (pictures)
Got a crappy surprise two days ago. While doing some maintenance on the boat. I took a quick look under the hull to find some stress fractures that are leaching water. its just above the first strake and just forward of mid ship. I think its about where I took some good poundings going uphill when running a little faster than I should have last time I was out. Im pretty sure its only on the port side when I checked out the hull but if I got stress on the port I'm sure the other side might be week as well but no fracturing there yet. I am really surprised because I really didn't think the occasional uphill hammering was doing anything like this. I have a bad back and usually only run at 18 on our typical up hill runs to the islands.
Anyone ever seen this on a 25’ HF radon? I was planning on doing an epoxy barrier coat then bottom painting and keep it in the water during cuke season next year. but now I'm a little worried about that if the hull will leak. I had just started to scout for cukes between rain storms and now I have no idea how I'm gonna get in the water any time soon. Will I need to cut the deck out above it to repair and reinforce or cut from the bottom and just re-glass it? Anyone recommend a place that can tackle this near Channel Island Harbor? I don't think Anderson would be interested in doing this kind of work or even Radon but then again I don't know if this is a big or small repair. Any advice or input from the experts how to handle this is appreciated. By the way Shotbyatard your skiff turned out truly awesome. Wish I had those skills |

Hey Steve,
Sorry to hear this. My guy "DAN the Man" in Pedro is really good at this kind of work. I know its a little ways away but his prices are reasonable and his work is solid. Dan 310 486-1563.
