Re: Santa Barbara Freedivers 3rd Annual Scramble Meet & BBQ
Couple photos of the winners.
Those 100 pound stringers were absolutely nuts!

Seriously though... everyone who was there, please send me a note at info@sbfreedivers.com and let me know how we can improve the tournament for next year. For starters, some of the comments I've already received are: 1) Have someone there to photograph all of the fish being weighed and get a pic of each person with their complete stringer; 2) Limit the catch to a maximum of 3 Yellowtail; 3) Coordinate dates so we are not on the same date as the OC Classic; 4) Make the rules to require all fish to be in the circle at 4:00pm, not just that people check-in. 5)Have someone who is designated as the cook so that nothing gets overcooked (or any corn-on-the-cob gets burnt ); and 6) Make sure we set up camp next to a fun Asian family again!! .... all comments welcome .... also, let me know if you liked the "no a.m. check-in" requirement. I am also considering moving the check-in to a park that has better parking and is maybe more centrally located to where we are all diving. Anyway... this is your club ya'll... I'm just the help. Feedback needed...

Nice shooting' guys, I hope to dive in this comp next year. Maybe after each tourney start a new thread (or update one) with the results including details about the fish shot, it would be cool to see what you guys shot!

Re: Santa Barbara Freedivers 3rd Annual Scramble Meet & BBQ
Limit of 3 YT!? No way! If you can pull in 5 YT in a (short) day, you deserve the trophy. Also, didn't the winner shoot 2 seabass and 3 YT?

Eric, our FB page has details first. I try to post there first, and then InstaGram. Spearboard is only our 3rd/4th social media platform since many people are not on here.
Bowxe, noted... Thx buddy!!

I know he weighed in 2 seabass, but I don't know if he used both toward his 5 fish total. He also shot 4 YT

Re: Santa Barbara Freedivers 3rd Annual Scramble Meet & BBQ
What a great day we had on Saturday, I'm still in disbelief over what I saw. I would never had imagined that four divers would bring in 5 fish each and three of them would weigh in stringers over 100 pounds. That is just phenomenal!
Congrats to Eric Hodge who took the Comp with 3 yellowtail and 2 WSB, even tho he actually shot 4 YT and 2 Seabass. Unreal day in the water dude! When MJ and I left the island with a fish bag that was absolutely stuffed to the brim and required four guys to lift, I thought I had the comp in the bag. Turns out, I only weighed in 86 pounds of YT and placed 4th! I'm super stoked on the solid showing, way to go everyone who competed! And big thanks to J for doing all the hard work to host the event, it turned out awesome and was a ton of fun

Re: Santa Barbara Freedivers 3rd Annual Scramble Meet & BBQ
And for the record...
If Truckstop Tony thinks that weighing in 5 YT is unfair, he should be dropped from the club! Ha

Re: Santa Barbara Freedivers 3rd Annual Scramble Meet & BBQ
Had some of you guys ask about the mix I used to marinade the YT and Halibut at the BBQ. It was a made up mix that I did on the fly and it is listed below. I mixed it up in an extra large pot that I use to steam my Lobster and then slowly placed/mixed in about 15 lbs of YT and Halibut in generous-sized portions and then topped with 4 YT collars cut in half. So... cut the portions down to make less obviously... I let it marinade for about 30 hours and turned it over a few times before it went on the grill.
1.5 Cups Olive Oil Mayo 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce 2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce 1/8 Cup Sesame Seeds ~1 Tbsp Fresh-squeezed Lemon Juice 1 Tbsp Bragg's Amino 1/4 Cup Italian Dressing ~2 tsp Fresh-ground Black Pepper ~1 tsp Fresh-ground Sea Salt 2 tsp Wasabi 1/8 Cup Coconut Oil 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup (from my family's farm in Ohio) 1 Cup of Raw/Sliced Ginger (from Lazy Acres) <--- this is key!!
