Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
Looking for a new anchor for my 25' Seafox Walkaround. I currently have the old school galvanized danforth style, but wanted some opinions on what y'all out there think work well in the gulf of mexico, out of AMI, Longboat, etc... I am trying to decide between a fortress fluke anchor, or maybe the Rocna scoop fisherman anchor with the retrieve ring option. But any other recommendations are welcomed. I would like to stay under $250 if possible.

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
I have used several different anchors on my 25' cuddy. These include danforth, fortress, CQR, and claw anchors. Last year I purchased a Mantus anchor on the recommendation of a friend and have been very pleased with it's performance. It holds better in grass and mud than any of the others I've used and is inexpensive. I use it with a wire break-away because I do a lot of fishing and diving on wrecks and reefs. I would buy one again if I ever need to replace it.
BTW, I have a stainless CQR and an aluminum Fortress I'd be willing to sell if someone needs them. |

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
Thanks butchbal, what weight Mantus would you recommend for my 25' Cuddy? Also, what prices are you asking for the others you have? You can PM me if you prefer. Thanks for the help!

I carry one rock anchor made from stainless steel. This is great for reef lockups. I carry a fluke for Sandy bottom. Both are used with a retrieval ball system since I don't have a windless on my boat.

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
What is this "anchor" you speak of? I'm unfamiliar with what it does . . . . LOL - just kidding. Although I never use one when we dive, I do have one that when we fish down in the Keys for YT has been very good to me.
https://www.fisheriessupply.com/rocn...0aAqdHEALw_wcB The Rocna works well in all the terrain I might anchor on, though I do also have a rock/wreck anchor that will bend when stuck and pull out of tight spaces, then you just bend it back into shape. |

When you guys say "rock/wreck" anchor, what style or brand are you referring to? (and thanks for the input!!)

I love my fortress fx-7. 21' walk around. Check the fortress website for size spec - it may be the next one up. Super light anchor, can rig breakaway if fishing.

I purchased a 13 lb mantus from Amazon for $129.00. I use it with an electric winch. Like Grey said, I usually don't anchor up when diving, just when fishing. |

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
I didn't realize people bought anchors. I do all my anchor shopping at the artificial reefs. I use a 14# stainless plow with 12' of stainless chain on my 23' Seacraft Sceptre. It holds well on our Gulfcoast bottom.
Also if you rig it break-away, you get to keep it, unlike the guy that owned it before me. |

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
We found a galvanized Spoon plow anchor (might be made by Rocna?) over here in Melbourne a few weeks ago. Let me know if you're interested. The guy who found it wants $90 (OBO) with the 7' heavy galvanized chain. It's very clean so much have been a recent loss. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Looking for a new anchor- suggestions?
200 lbs?? Surely you don't carry enough lift bags for that. Take a rope down?
Do head boats use anchors that heavy? |
