Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Just kind of piling on. Conditions were even good at the back end of low tide yesterday. Pulled a limit from the nearshore eel grass (was a ghost town out deep) and scored a PB octopus. Man, tackling big octos is a freaking rodeo...

Also, if any of you are bubble blowers, I found a practically brand new scuba fin yesterday east of Dume. If you can tell me what it is and where you lost it, you're welcome to it, I know those things are F*in expensive.

Alternatively, if anyone just needs a match to a single they have feel free to PM me.

Went to leo (7:30-9p) on reports of 30-50' vis. Felt like i was kicking forever, and never saw better than a very hazy 6' vis so turned back and stayed nearshore. Nothing worth shooting to be seen.

Check the chlorophyll readings on tempbreak.com. You aren't exactly diving in the clearest spot. With that said, I dove Monday, yesterday, and today, and noticed the viz getting a little worse today as the surf bumped up a notch. Nabbed a couple flatties doing the full moon thing today. Viz in the surf break was silty as was expected.

Wow. That's a great resource. Thanks for the tip!

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Was diving last 3 days including today, went into water around 9 am and the vis was nowhere near as it was for last 2 days. I could see top to bottom in kelp forest near Pepperdine university area, today it deteriorated to maybe 7 feet at best.
Yesterday and day before got awesome calicos..

BTW is video from Malibu with shore pics OK to post here?

Super bummer... I am heading out tonight/sat AM. Was hoping to catch a little bit of full moon and epic viz. Tembreak shows chloro count back up in the last couple days. Hopefully still clear offshore.

I'm stoked for you, man, but I for one would really appreciate it if you didn't. Somebody did something very similar with a really awesome scallop spot in Malibu and now it's rare to find them on that reef....in a period of 6 months.

I would be interested in the underwater footage if you want to post it or PM. I live in humboldt so chances of me blowing up your spot are none. Right now we have 4' of vis in most places so video of clear, warm water with actual fish, not point and shoot rockfish, is basically better than porn.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

Well, it was a good week while the viz lasted. Unfortunately, I went out today and it was about 15' where last week it was 60'. Still workable, but not nearly as fun.

Re: Malibu Conditions Permathread

We went out yesterday East of Dume. Sucks we missed the 60' but it was nice at about 15'. Spent 6 hours in the water, had a great time got a couple fish. Much better to be in the water than not.

15' at Leo this morning. Saw lots of perch, the most opaleye I've seen there, a few short calicos, not much else.

Beautiful symmetry with the left- and right-handed flatties

Nothing wrong with your catch...no need to discount it. Way to go...good eats.
