need advice on island spearfishing
wassup peoples. i'll be visiting waikiki in the next two weeks and was wondering if i can get some advise on where to spearfish. i can't bring none of my gear from cali so could any of you also recommend a place where i can rent snorkel, fins and a gun. or would a spearpole be better? straight up, i'm still an amateur and still learning. i just want to experience the beauty of island waters and spear just a few fishes for dinner. any response would be great.

Diving on Oahu can be challenging, especially if you are trying to catch dinner. You can rent stuff from the touristy places in Waikiki, or even off the beach, but it's not really spearfishing quality. I don't know anywhere that will rent a speargun. Perhaps you can post your request on the forum at Hawaiiskindiver.net. If I still lived on Oahu, I'd loan you some gear. A pole spear would be the cheapest way to go if you had to buy gear on Oahu. I think you could pick one up for about $50-$80 depending what you want. On Oahu, check out Hanapaa Hawaii at Ala Moana, Pearl Ridge Shopping Center, or in Kalihi for gear to purchase. Oh, if you are spearfishing, you need a float and flag, that's the law. Email me if you have more questions.
