April 2015 -Florida FWC approves 70-day Gulf recreational red snapper season
Commission approves 70-day recreational red snapper season in Gulf state waters
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) approved a 70-day recreational red snapper season for Gulf state waters at the April 16 meeting in Tallahassee. Red snapper is a popular species that has a strong economic impact for many coastal communities throughout Florida. The 2015 season will start the Saturday before Memorial Day (May 23) and run through July 12, resume for all of Labor Day weekend (Sept. 5-7) and finish with Saturdays and Sundays throughout the rest of September and all of October, with the last day of harvest being Sunday, Nov. 1. The 2015 Gulf federal waters recreational red snapper season has not been set yet and will be announced later this spring by NOAA Fisheries. For more information, visit MyFWC.com/About and click on “The Commission” and “Commission Meetings.” For information on Gulf red snapper, visit MyFWC.com/Fishing and click on “Saltwater,” “Recreational Regulations” and “Gulf Snapper.”

That sucks for the majority of offshore fishermen in the Florida Gulf unless there is some unknown aggregation of ARS in 35'. Florida needs to stay out of the regulatory management of offshore species. By doing this again the Feds will only deduct what they estimate the state catch is and deduct it from the TAC.

Kenny, you hit the nail on the head. The 70 day ARS season for 90% of us is no good due to the shallow waters within the 9 mile state waters. Why don't they just open and close fed and state waters at the same time? That way we all can go get fish.

If I could just get 2-4 ARS tags per year I would be way better off.

Just sent a e-mail to all the FWC Commissioners asking them to tell me where I can catch American Red Snapper off of Pinellas County in state waters. Let you know what i receive back.

A tag program would do it but that is only if the states get out of the management. But that ain't gonna happen.
