Not even, I get 100 pounds or better a trip normally just incidentally when there's nothing else in front of me.From Daytona to mid NC in the last 3 months.

I also believe they are better. They are great no matter how you cook them , and make really good sushi.
The ones I have seen around here have all been rather small, but unlike a mangro they don't have the bad fishy red meat, and a much higher yield %.
So it is worth shooting even the small ones.

Re: 17.5" Lionfish anyone?

One night down in the Keys last year we shot a hogfish, nabbed a lobster, and got our first lionfish - about a 14" one.

Of the four people who ate them that night (all prepared the exact same way) every one chose the lionfish over even the lobster.

I will trade any fish I get for lionfish, pound for pound, if I can.

I concur they are tasty and that is good news because they might be the only fish left on the reefs to shoot one day.

Re: 17.5" Lionfish anyone?

actually 17.5 is a good size one.You can look up world record lion fish and capt.Jimmy nelson holds the world record at 477 mm.......Thats 18.779 inches. But thats what my google search found.Maybe thats just over here in the Atlantic, gulf and caribbean waters.Who knows on the other side of the world.in indonesian waters, but the link i found did say "world record".......I was just in the Jacksonville Lionfish rodeo and the largest for the tournament was 446 mm...which is 17.55 inches

A 19" one was the winner in one of the lionfish derbies here in the Keys. I have seen what i believe was a larger one on a deep wreck.
We actually have more and bigger Lionfish here than in their "native areas"

I have caught a few Lionfish over 17", won't be suprised if someone eventually catches a 25-30" one in the following years.
