Suggestions for St. Pete area spearing
Heading out of the Fort DeSoto boat ramp to do some spearing. We'll be on a time schedule (only have the babysitter for a few hours!)...
Where should we go to get some fish? We can do tanks or freediving, either one. The Navionics charts have some dive spots marked out there but not sure which ones we should shoot for. We won't have time to try out a few different spots. Thanks ya'll! |

Re: Suggestions for St. Pete area spearing
First: size of boat
Second: Experience in shooting. Third: What would you like to shoot. Fourth: How much time do you have. Fifth: Distance you are willing to go. There are about 100 more but you get the idea. We know where you are going from (and hope to come back to) but a few more details would help. |

First: 24' Angler Second: Experience shooting: experienced in saltwater, mostly on FL east coast and Bahamas. Third: Anything legal and edible lol Fourth: half a day Fifth: Depends on how rough it is. Not far if it's rough (takes too long that way anyway) Overall goal is to get a couple suggestions of places that are doable in a half day but we may have a chance of getting dinner |

Email me - ericfield@hotmail.com - I can give you some ledges in various depths and distances that should get you at least some hogs, mangos, and maybe some gags.

Re: Suggestions for St. Pete area spearing
Please let us know how it turned out.
I have a sort of similar situation: I'm not super experienced at spearfishing, adequate boat captain and scuba/free diving. Going out of Fort DeSoto 20' Boston Whaler Outrage with 200 hp single, 85 gal. gas tank. Redundant Chartplotters on network with fuel management. Got all day. Hogs, Mangoes, Gags, ARS if lucky enough. I have ledges east n/east of Clearwater, but nothing south. If I can get some help, I'd appreciate it. If not, oh well, doesn't hurt to ask! |
