Some commercial questions
Kelp Crabs? limits? Any at all?
Spider crabs? limits Any at all? Weird I know chefs like this stuff. I've got another delicacy in spain we don't harvest over here that I will be harvesting. Won't be specifying. I've tried looking on the DFG site but not much luck. Thanks. Cameron Last edited by Cameronv; 10-31-2018 at 06:06 PM. Reason: waffles |

Re: Some commercial questions
...Not many of us commercials remaining anymore...most of us are thankfully retired from a very fickle ocean and went on to make our fortunes in real estate.....F&W puts out a commercial licensing booklet which you can get for free at one of their branch offices...that should answer most of your questions...also, get the IRS tax booklet for farmers/fishermen and learn to take the max writeoffs (ex. you can turn in your gas receipts to the state for a cash refund of the highway fuel tax portion, as it does not apply to boats..years ago, it was about 18 cents per gallon used)…
...Wealth building is not about how much you earn, but rather, it is about how much you get to keep!....(another useless Ballew platitude) |

Re: Some commercial questions
Bob thabk you very much. You’re always a respectful helpful source of information. I’ll be reg my boat commercial. Fishing open access creatures while having fun on adventures, and having a nice tax write off. Now that the urchin pool is nearly impossible to get into there’s no chance of that happening for years. Im in the pool, but just entered
In the end it will be a means to afford my boat and gas. |

I just thought about it and I can only assume that the taxes brought in from regulating them exceed the taxes from diver tourism or commercial fishermen who benefit from the kelp?

Re: Some commercial questions
...In CA, most of our commercial permits are closed to new holders or very limited to keep from overharvesting resources...Any commercial license will allow you to deduct boat/engine/equipment interest payments. This is where knowing something about the tax codes will come in handy...
...Non-commercials can write off boat loan interest paid each year, as a second home, IF: the boat has cooking facilities (a campstove will do), a sleeping area (a bunk is fine) and toilet (bucket) if I remember correctly...I write off my Parker loan interest each year as our second home....all legal...(Under the new Trumpism rules, you can only write off interest limited to $750,000 of home loan value, so, don't buy a $1 million yacht just yet)... The above info refers to federal income tax returns...state is a different ballgame but, usually parrots the fed returns... ...Gov. Brown just signed AB (Assembly Bill) 1573 into law, allowing an expansion of experimental fishing gear and permits, including areas previously closed off to commercial activity. Convince F&W Commission members you deserve a permit and new areas could open up for aspiring commercial fishermen/divers.... Last edited by Bob Ballew; 11-02-2018 at 12:21 AM. |
