Wow, that one brings a grin. Ross Allen - with a bevy of "fair mermaids" no less. Gear was sparse back then, and a lot of it home spun. I snorkeled there in the mid sixties as a child. And lots of lunker catfish, bowfin, and largemouth in the deep grass.

cwazy. My best memories of the spring rivers is skiing on one. Whilst looking at the bottom, your stomach would seemingly jump from feet to head as you passed over holes with crystal clear water.

The masks were from Japan. Snorkels and fins were not yet invented. I think that the pole spears were from Hawaii or the south Pacific.
