Whenever the water hits 50 here. Always last week of april. Our seaseon opens april 1 and closes april 30 lol. We pretty much get no spring tog as divers here. Then it opens in july when all the big fish are gone and the limmit is one fish. Nj is a joke.

Hi Folks!

https://www.wunderground.com/MAR/buo...4/5/QPTR1.html
Seems to be a warm spring this year!
Water temp is higher than previous years (close to 2016 data).
I expect togs will start coming at 50 degree, but probably will open my season this Sunday

Re: Guesses on when the tog show up?

On a side note, I’m curious to see what the health of the lobster population is this year. My few dives last year off cape Ann were epic, but it seemed that 5 of 6 legal were laden with eggs and released, and a surprising number of the eggers were much smaller than in the past. Lots of healthy tog though, lots of pollock and loads of black-backs, and of course herds of beautiful stripers we can’t shoot; bummer. Looking forward to a great season!

Re: Guesses on when the tog show up?

Hi folks,

I opened my season in Jamestown (Beaver Tail) this morning. Spent about an hour in the water. Viz was ok. No fish seen. Happy to get back in the ocean anyway.
Good luck spring divers! Make sure you wear at least 5mm opencell (better 7mm) and new gloves/socks.

Congratulations on opening your season! Closest I came was a walk in Warch Hill with the wife and dogs. The tide was low last evening and water gin clear. I’ll probably get out in a week or so.

The water in Gloucester has a long way to go. I think it has been a cold spring. We probably have 5-6 weeks.
