Jerry, This sounds great. There was a rumor running around that you and Terry were trying to put the Arizona State Spearfishing Champion Trophy back together and combine these 2 tournaments to crown a State champ!!! Any truth to this? Look forward to helping you out on anything you need from the RMSA.

I'm bringing two teams this time around. Any word on if the tourney will be in the lake or the river? I've only dove Willow so I dont know how the lake would be. River was awesome though..

Terry and I as well as Mike McQuire spoke of getting the trophy back in useable condition and trying to get some past stats in order to update the existing trophy. Otherwise, we could start fresh.

Thinking that possibly it would be an Arizona or Arizona/Nevada State Championship. Final details are not yet worked out. Your inut appreciated.

2010 should be exciting. With the caliber of past competitors & more & more showing interest daily, there should be some stiff "A" game shooting & hopefully more major mfgs., will realize what they are missing out on in regards to consumer value and come on board as sponsors.

Your help is always appreciated. Please let everyone know, free and scuba divers that we are continuing to move forward and will continue to grow this sport and for them to plan on signing-up and competing.

Any past, current or future sponsors that you know of, speak to them or have them contact me directly. Lets get them on board.

Thank you.

Shane,

Let everyone know, free & scuba spearos.

I appreciate your support! THANKS.

We are looking at options now and laying the ground work.

The river as you know is a rush.

Our options are:

River as was the last tourney

Lake as was the May tourney

Or, open up the river, lake and WILLOW.

Lake and Willow will eat up time but, Willow would allow some to go for "BIG" fish.

What is your preference?

417 fish for 2,860.56 pounds were shot in the river in November.

Re: 2010 colorado river series tournament

Im planning on making the shoot, but I have a few questions.
Can skiboats go on the river?
are the boundaries worked out yet?
What depth will the fish be at? Freedive or Scuba?
What will the water temp be?
Who else is going, and where is everyone staying?

Thanks, looking forward to it.

Shroomy...Yes, ski boats on the river are fine. There are shallow areas. Boundaries are worked out.
Free and scuba will be no problem getting into fish. Depths range from a few feet and down.
River temp year round is about 55 to 57 in current with shallower and back waters reaching the 70's+
So, far it appears that all competitors from Nov. '09 are returning. Which means, Italy, Germany, Missouri, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, California, Texas, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.
Casinos & hotels right across the river. Hotels on the AZ side as well.

Viz will vary of course dependent upon location.
River right now 40 to 60 feet with an average of 20'+
Lake right now is an easy 60+ feet though will be less in May and the coves depending on silt and weather could go as low as a few feet.

I wonder what are you doing with all the carps caught during the tournament?

Some people took the backstraps off of the larger ones for cooking. The rest were dumped into a rented dumpster. Jerry told me he tried to get a couple places to accept them as fertilizer, but nobody wanted them.

Re: 2010 colorado river series tournament

Allied Waste is a sponsor of this event and donates dumpsters and the trucks to haul them to the landfill.

We have offered them to numerous agencies, farms, etc.. for pet food, fertilizer and other uses. So, far we have not found anyone that has a specific use for the fish in this area. Other areas in the past have had use for and have taken the fish.

Many of the last competitors did indeed take backstrap fillets to use various recipes on.
