I don't know who to use but Amigos del Mar looked like a good operation. Seaduced. You could even call El Pescador and see what they recommend for spearfishing. a lot of these guys are dive shops but they arrange fishing too.
From what I've observed, most of the charters in Belize are going to be a little sloppy by U.S. standards. Several of them won't take you spearfishing, but many will. I usually go with friends who own boats and live on Ambergris Caye, but one charter I have gone with several times is a guy named John Murray. He's a fun guy and very good spearfisherman who knows some good spots for hogfish and snapper. His rates are $175 for a half day and $250 for a full day. Only contact info I have is a BZ cell phone: 501-620-9433. He lives north of San Pedro about 2 miles but will pick you up at your dock. Tell him Wayno sent you.

Re: Spearfishing in Belize

I'm headed down for a week in August and would love to get out spearing. Any of you board members planning on being down there the same time?

Thanks for the tip on John Murray. I went out with him today and had a great time shooting hogs.

Me and my girl went for 10 days and it almost turned into a lifetime!! Ambergris caye is paradise, and we look forward to returning in the future!! Capt. Boxter took me out for spearing and lobster and we used hooked gigs to catch em ( although I got rid of mine and grabbed em Cali style!). The only thing with Boxter' is that he chain smoked huge joints all day long!

Re: Spearfishing in Belize

Hi,

I know this was last year but worth a shot.

Me and my lady will be heading down to Belize the first weekend of September and we're looking for someone to take us out free diving and spearfishing. Will bring our own gear ofcourse. Any recommendations or tips would be great!

Thanks,
Carl

Tell them you're a friend of Carl and Julie. I'd recommend snorkeling Holchan too. Lots of big and tame wild life. The jacks and nurse sharks are like big underwater dogs.

Re: Spearfishing in Belize

I saw some old threads from 2010 about tourists not being allowed to spearfish or fish at all. Has that changed? Can tourist get fishing permits now?
