Re: Missing diver, Anclote area

Saw that. Was running boat between egmont and pass a grille outside yesterday and got caught by some weather. Sheets of high speed rain. Would have been a bad situation to be underwater when that came through. Any updates on the missing diver?

Not sure about what charter vessel the missing diver was on. I have heard different things. I have heard that local divers have searched for him along with what the Coast Guard and State efforts have been. I've heard that local divers plan to continue the search on Tuesday.

Its my backyard. I also heard that were asking for very experienced divers only to help search. Was the charter out of Homeport?

Re: Missing diver, Anclote area

The Coast Guard late Monday suspended the search for a diver who disappeared this past weekend in the waters off Anclote Key.

Eddy Brunt III, 42, was diving with friends about seven miles off the coast of Anclote Key State Park when he failed to resurface, according to the Coast Guard.

The friends called for help around 1 p.m. and the Coast Guard launched a search using multiple vessels, a plane and a helicopter. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission boats assisted in the search along with divers from a fishing charter boat called Fat Cat.

The Coast Guard announced Monday night that it was suspending the search for Brunt after covering about 1,685 square miles in 43 hours — an area roughly the size of Rhode Island.

“It is only after the Coast Guard, FWC, and local partner agencies saturated every possible area that we must make this call," Capt. Matt Thompson, commanding officer of Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, said in a statement announcing the suspension of the search. "Our thoughts are with Mr. Brunt’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
