Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

I would go with a short euro gun. you can probably find a 75 used for less than $ 100, and they have the reach for days when you mis-judge the vis and end up hunting calico's in clear water

Who did I see getting into the water at Devereaux yesterday at sunset? Looked like you were suited up for a lobster dive but had a short railgun with you also.

Matt, this is my hole gun (i have the 90cm) and i took a 23lb pargo with it once down in Mx. Great little euro gun and they're under $100 new.

Those are fun little guns. I'm pretty sure Andy has a 75cm and 90cm at Blue Water Hunter right now.

Really? I might have to go and snag it, can you mount a reel on it?

Yes. I have the cressi reel on mine. It's like $30 and pretty decent. It's a great little set up.

Re: Santa Barbara Conditions Report "Perma-Thread"

Down-side of those guns is that the bands are proprietary (using threaded connectors) and they use a metal articulating wishbone that can be very dangerous on the hands if you're not careful. You can get a euro-to-american band adapter kit in order to make your own bands. (I think they are like $30). If you want to use soft wishbones, you have to change the shaft out for one with smooth notches (I think the aim rite shafts have smooth rounded notches).

I use a cressi 75 for low vis- halibut
got a single notch ra shaft, tie in bands with a soft wishbone, and made it an open muzzle.

i can take some pictures of the muzzle if you want, or bring it to the next meeting

this might be useful at some point in the next 15 days or so to those who dive deveraux

license and card have to be 500 yards from the water.

And remember floppers are considered a hooked devise by most wardens.

This issue has been covered pretty exhaustively. Our local wardens don't consider floppers as "hooked devices" unless you have bugs with holes in them. That is right from the mouth of one of the local wardens, btw.
