Re: Big Snapper

Congrats bud. Im diving out of alabama and in my waters a big cubera isnt very common to come by. If your lucky enough to bag one during a tournament you pretty much have the snapper jack pot tied up. Congrats on the nice fish. Im yet to bag one of those big cubera myself

landing the fish was actually not the story of the day lol. We went to west end for a day trip, first trip on my single engine solo. We got caught in a nasty storm coming back, left there around 5 and hit the marina at 9pm.

the cubera I shot on the first dive of the day in 60', murky water. As I approached the bottom, 3 cuberas came in to me, with the biggest one closest to me, about 6' away I quickly got a head shot with a neritic roller spear and fought it as hard as I could to keep it from rocking up. about 30 seconds later or so I had made it about half way up and one of my dive buddies dove down and pulled the fish up, as he did that, the third diver placed a second shot on it and it was done. Took all of 2 minutes to get the fish of a 15 hour trip!

Re: Big Snapper

What is a "neritic roller spear"? Freediving world and their adaptation of gear intrigues me....and kicked my butt in Bimini earlier this year. I'm used to shooting a band gun on scuba and free diving with a pole spear made it challenging, to say the least.

It's a pole spear with roller band instead of a regular band, 10' with a very sharp slip tip, the roller band gives u good power definitely thru 6-8'

Re: Big Snapper

I looked up the web site and watched a few of the videos, but none of them actually show the pole spear or how the roller part works...that's what I'm curious about. How does it work in relation to a regular pole spear?
