Re: Advanced Marine Environment First Aid Meeting 9-20-2018

Fernando, thank you for the notice and invitation.
In a former life, I had to stay up-to-date with my First Aid (and CPR) qualifications as part of my job but now, after many years of retirement, I have no doubt forgotten most of it... I still travel once a year to SE Asia where I do a lot of spearfishing, and that's where I have come to realize how important the type of information (and training) as mentioned in your post CAN be. A couple of years ago, while spearfishing far away from shore (2 hours by motorized junk-boat) I was bitten in the upper-arm, thru my 2mm wetsuit, by a 12 lb. needle-fish that subsequently required several stitches. I bled profusely, even under my tight wetsuit. Luckily there was a lobster-farm in the vicinity where, upon looking at the punctures in my arm, its occupants used cigarette tobacco to effectively (but temporarily) stop my bleeding... Most important was the fact that one of those punctures only missed my brachial artery by about 1mm, and that's probably how close I came to bleeding to death.
I have had several other close-calls, which only reinforce my belief in the importance of being as well-prepared as possible for any emergency while out diving and spearfishing.
Thursday nights are normally busy nights for me, but I will try my best to be at your meeting on 9/20/2018.
Once again, thanks.

Di Au

This is absolutely FREE, the OC Spearos are covering the speakers cost & providing beverages. Bring money for purchasing food & Pelagic gear.
