Re: The Official Epoxy vs. Urethane vs. Phenols Glue Thread

I have bought a (two components adhesive based on polyurethane and epoxy resins ) and it was a shit ,de-laminate after 2 days leaving a sample in water ,they propose the pure epoxy and it was good except the pot life was very short
especially here at 35 C ,I attached the datasheet for what they said water based with 2 hrs pot life .

Which Gorilla Glue product are you referring too Behslayer? From their website it looks like there are a couple glues and an epoxy.

Re: The Official Epoxy vs. Urethane vs. Phenols Glue Thread

Guys,
back in this old thread.
I wanna cover a gun with epoxy or urethane ?
I wanna do a solid color gun.
What do you suggest ? Could I paint the gun and cover in transparent epoxy or add pigment to the epoxy ?
What about the mech pocket, spear track, line anchor.. I cover all this as well with the epoxy ?

Hi there!

My only experience is with epoxy. I usually add paste pigments to put bright colors in the handles. Due to the nature of the epoxy, it usually requires two coats. Keep in mind following the pigment manufacturer instructions, otherwise you may add too much and compromise the properties of the cured epoxy.

I have another friend of mine who builds maaaaaaaany guns (he sells them) and usually paints them with an airbrush and then coats with clear epoxy. The results are great as well. worth mentioning he does not paint with full colors, but with cammo patterns and such.

If you want the gun to look pretty much like a syntethic made stock, then you will have to go with pigmented epoxy. Rottisiere system is highly recommended to prevent run outs.

Beware of tolerances in the track and mech area. If you add too much, things will not fit correctly. If the mech is pinned and the shaft does not have wiggle room (up/down), if you raise the track too much, the tail will hit the top of the mech instead of sliding inside.

If your mech is screwed from the top (think Meandros LS), then you can compensate later.

Re: The Official Epoxy vs. Urethane vs. Phenols Glue Thread

I haven't posted here in years. For those that don't know me I used to build guns. I have many still around. All are probably at least 10 years old. Not one gun has had any issue laminating issues. Not one gun has come apart. All were urethane. Polespear has put his through about anything you could.
