Two Harbors Spearing Labor Day Weekend

Hey guys,
Heading to two harbors with the family this weekend. My job and 1 year old have kept me out of the water for 18 months and I want to get back after it. I'm completely out of the loop as to whats going on out there right now. I doubt I'll have the luxury of a boat and the little dingy I might rent isn't going to get me to any of the old hunting grounds. Any advise, news, etc. is greatly appreciated.

The water is a bit green lately, but there's always fish around the usual spots. Fly a flag, or use a float if possible. Lots of traffic around.

Suggest you get in the water as early a.m. as possible for best high tides and tide height (3.4 to 4')...afternoon tides are 5' and above, suggesting strong currents....wind has been coming up by 10 a.m. and water will probably turn green like 32Juan advised....off west end of Bird Rock is outside the preserve, Eagle Reef and Ship Rock for the usual suspects...look for anchovie pileups on any of the beaches for halibut spots...and, always the Reef for drinks and a fish dinner if the gun doesn't produce....

My thought for Catalina on a big weekend is: Better to dive a "dumb" spot than it is to get run over..... Sharks and things that go bump in the night don't hold a candle to all those yahoos on jet skis and boats. Dangerous! Be safe and have fun.

Thanks Tommy,
I'm certainly more concerned with the people than the sharks (though I'd like to hear Bob's shark stories). Last time I was out there alone 2 years ago I was stopped by a diver who said he saw a big 18ft girl off Bird 20 minutes earlier...

FYI, the water is brown/green... It's terrible out there right now. Hopefully it clears up soon.
