Re: Philippines spearfishing?
Nice looking trevallies! Okay so for sure I'll be in the Philippines from Feb 2, to Mar. 30. But probably would not be able to go to Siquijor till Feb. 18th or later. Which is the best time to go there for spearfishing and pole fishing (feb or mar)? Also, would I have any problems bringing my spear gun through philippine customs? The kid in the pic sure can spear all types of fish. Is he available as a guide in Siquijor? Thanks Vamforce.

Not exactly. Between January 5 and the 9 I have to go to Cebu and pick up my speargun first.

Re: Philippines spearfishing?
Depends what you want to shoot? First of all, the Hundred Islands is a National Park. Secondly, you are better off enjoying entertainment in Manila and for spearfishing take a 3h trip to Bali or Phuket. No joke...

Re: Philippines spearfishing?
LapuLapu/Diver278,
Did you guys get out spearing on your trips? Any fish taken? I am going to Cebu/Dumaguete/Siquijor/Camiguin in July, and plan to do some freediving (hopefully some spearing if I can borrow a gun)... I would love to hear about your guys' experience diving over there. And any recommendations or advice that you can share will be appreciated. Thank you |

Hi MichaelT, You are welcome to join one of our spearfishing expeditions in Bohol Sea, around islands of Bohol, Pamilacan, Siquijor and Camiguin. You will be accompanied by one of a pro-spearfisherman guide, even the Philippines double spearfishing champion. We can provide a speargun (local made or RA), weights, masks, snorkel, fins (if your size is available), floats and float lines. We will charter a local pump boat (petrol or diesel) depends on a location and a trip range. It would be a fun and a lifetime experience. Some say fish are wary and stocks are overfished in the Philippines. This is true to some degree and locations but if you a good diver, can dive to 15-20m with a 30sec bottom time, and are accompanied by the pros, you will definitely have GTs, mackerel, groupers, snappers, and even reasonable (10-15kg) dogtooth tuna... You may also shoot wahoos in an open water. The best time to spearfish is a first half of December (mackerel) and February - May for larger pelagics. Locals and residents shoot all species all year round. Please let us know if you decide to join us. Some fish and experiences from the recent trips. P.S.Thanks Diver 278 for your kind recommendation. You are always welcome to join us.. Last edited by vamforce; 11-03-2016 at 09:55 PM. |

Re: Philippines spearfishing?
Hi guys,
We have a guided spearfishing tours at Siquijor and Camiguin islands (Bohol Sea) trips coming this December. Siquijor Island December 17-19, Camiguin December 21-23. We are going to transfer divers by boat between islands. Distance just over 50nm. Guided Trip includes diving from a boat (6am-3pm), including a mackerel shooting master class Philippine style. Targeting species: mackerel (tanigue), GT (mamsa), grouper. Budget: $100 per day (Siquijor & Camiguin). TBC depends on number of divers. We expect 4-5 guests plus 2 local guides. Budget includes a boat dive, safety diver-spearfishing guide, refreshments on board, local knowledge and support (dealing with local authorities), bbq dinner at the end of the day. Accommodation still available on both islands, although it's a pick of season. U/w GoPro footage for your memories. Depths 10-20m. Low to moderate currents. Pls pm if interested to join. Limited number of spots available. https://www.facebook.com/events/7029...3251689841064/ |

Re: Philippines spearfishing?
So far the largest fish during the trip, 1.3m Great Barracuda
Ordinary fish speared regularly on the reefs of Bohol Sea. Few dogtooth lost due to non-adequate gears. Lessons learnt.. Hips of trevallies, snappers, groupers..Moderate currents |
