Hello Everyone! Great Forum!

So I started spearfishing a year ago. I live in Israel. A friend of mine made a homemade spear pole and we got started. After a few months I bought a Seac 45. We have been trying to use that but have been pretty unsuccessful. We have only been shore reef fishing. So the results have been only 1 small Dennis Fish in the past year

I thought I would substantially up my game and have bought some more gear. Cressi Technica 3.5 and a couple of days ago Rob Allen 90cm.

I was reading and people seem to say that the best gun to start with is like a 65-75cm
But when I went to the Store they were really against it and suggested I get a 90 cm and suggested Rob Allen over a Pathos. Not sure if I made a wise decision.

I haven't been able to pull back the bands (2-16mm). Out of the water. Not to load it but to practice getting it back there. No success .

Any help ?

Good purchase?

Thanks!
Oz

if you are right handed put your right hand on the handle and the left on the bands push with your right as you pull with the left and place the butt firmly on your chest then move your left hand to the bands and pull back with both hands.. also do not load out of water it is pretty unsafe

thanks bro. Yeah not trying to load it just to get the band to the right place. I can get it to my chest but from there can get it all the way

Try this method, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ch87-bEcMY

Also, the size of your gun should be dictated by the viz of the waters you intend to hunt. So if you're hunting in clear waters a 70cm gun would seem too small for most spearos, a 90cm-100cm would probably be more appropriate.

Sounds liked they steered you in the right direction with a 90cm.

Yes, the RA is a great gun, you shouldn't have any regrets.

When the bands are new they always seem a little harder to load. One of the tricks I use is to let the bands warm up in the sun for a little bit and then repeatedly stretch them. Also, you want to make sure that you are pushing your torso forward instead of letting the pressure of the gun make you bend over. You'll never get the band to the loading point doing that. Of course, you'll probably want to use a pad as well. Worst case scenario is to take it back to the dive shop and have them switch out the bands for something a little longer or 3 14mm bands if possible.

90cm gun setup should be 6.75 shaft with a single 18mm band or 2 x 14mm bands not 16mm bands.

"Update". Success! A lot easier to load in the water!

Thanks for all your help! Really. I went into the water this morning from the beach and my spearo buddy was really encouraging me that I need something to put on my chest for when I try to load the Gun. Well all I had was a t shirt and a my flip flops so I used a piece of rope and a clip to horizontally tie it to my Mares weight backpack. Not exactly the best but I was able to not break any sternum or ribs. I just tried to get it to the first notch.

Waiting for my Gara 3000 to arrive and been using these cressi 20 inch fins for well they are good for swimming not diving. Couldn't go out to reef . No fish but I did find an Aussie Hat !!!!

What's the difference between the 14mm and the 16mm?

Stronger rubbers can overpower your gun. If it's a railgun it shouldn't matter too much, neither if your rubber are a wee bit longer than normal. If it came off the shelf with the current setup i wouldn't worry too much, the manufacturers go though a lot of R&D before they unleash their products

Well when I bought the gun there was no rubbers on it. He had a bag of all size RA blue Bands he first tried the 18mm and no one could get that one back then he put on 2 x 16mm. I'm not really sure what the right ones are maybe like our fellow brother spearo said 2x 14?
