Weekend Paddy Hopping, San Diego, 9-20-13

Last Friday I made another paddy hopping trip from SD. I covered a whole lot of ocean and saw a lot of great stuff. Worked between the 9 and the 182. Good uphill current and a light South wind bringing Mexico goodies. Lots of good current breaks with birds and bait. Not a lot of kelp, and a lot of the ones we found were dry. Did find some truly epic paddies though. Had a close encounter with a blue whale and got to shoot some yellows and dorado. The sort of day that reminds you why we do this.

My first short video from Friday.

Now I can go chase lobsters with a clear head.

You're such a tease!

Where's the footage of you blasting YT and Dorado?

Come on dude, quit holding out. I know you have the footage...

And what's with the shaft overhang? Take it easy there Bubba.

Haha

I got home at 1 AM this morning, and had to work today. It only took ~10 minutes to crank out the whale video, but the shooting fish stuff takes longer to edit. I hope to get to it soon. I only shot video from my gun mount, and I am not too happy with what I get the moment after I hit the fish. Might just be a mash of fish hits.

You know how Riffes have a lot of overhang. All my fish came from my Riffe, but the RA was still the hero of the trip

That Rob Allen was the right tool for the job. Don't think I could have pulled off that shot with any other gun.

And you're not allowed to allude to gamefish being shot without providing a full writeup and photos of course. Spill the beans dude...I can see that grin through the computer screen

It was on the boat, but the RA was rigged with a flopper. Who has time for a slip tip when the dodos are jumping!!

All my fish were about this size. M and K 's fish were bigger than mine. It is quite something to see multiple dorado jumping 5 feet in the air all around a paddy! Even better to waterski behind one.

I think a pic or two are missing!

Great report, sounds like you had the proper rabbits foot tied to the hull that day!

I got an Andre. I prefer the RA with a flipper for blue water. One day I'll probably get a larger cannon from Andre so I can shoot those dodo that hang further out. But I'm convinced there is no fish in the world that can't be killed with a Rob Allen120 and a flopper.
