New guy in socal

Hey guys I'm just starting out in the world of spearfishing. Wanted to say hello to everyone. I've been learning a lot on this forum and hope to learn more. I plan to start spearing soon and hopefully figure it out. I am relatively new to the area and don't know much about anything when it comes to spearing but hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks for all the great info.

Re: New guy in socal

Just a quick question where should I be looking to hunt I live in Huntington Beach I know there are a lot of protected areas in Laguna? Also what would be a good gun to start with? I originally thought pole but a friend of mine suggested a gun for this area. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Corona Del Mar though Dana Point is a protected zone and most of Laguna is a closed zone to fishing.

Here's a PDF of the regs and maps of each area for Southern California

Don't forget to read up on fish size limits. Practical every fish out there has a size and take limit. It's very easy to break the law if you don't know the legal size for each fish. https://nrm.dfg.ca.gov/FileHandler.a...22&inline=true

Re: New guy in socal

def study your fish species and learn how to identify, that was one of the first things i did before i ever pulled the trigger.

i also have an app called FishAlerts! which shows protected sites. using that should help you get out in the water, which is the best place to learn!

happy spearing
