Catalina will be Crowded June 7th-9th...

...That is the weekend all the top wsb fishermen, halibut hunters and yellowtail chasers will be competing in a tournament with lots of fun and prizes. Every spot will probably be holding more boats than fish...
...Western Outdoor News will be at the Isthmus hosting the annual Catalina Island Jackpot tournament, with numerous sponsors giving away raffle prizes and a $10,000 payout for the 3 largest fish... If you don't mind watching from the sidelines, it is a great opportunity to scout outside the boats and learn where some "new" spots are....(hey, I use the same shortcut the first week of commercial lobster season..they hit the best reef areas first)….More than 5 boats or traps on a spot and it is worth taking a gps read for later reference....

Negative: It is this weekend...It is still being advertised as the 7th-9th of June. They apparently mixed it up with last weekend's Avalon Tuna Club contest using old linen line and bamboo rods to fish for gamefish like back in the early Zane Grey days....But, there are yellowtail to be had if you can squeeze into a slot between the serious competitors after those nifty prizes...

Neptunes Blue Water Meet was last weekend with some nice speared yellowtail taking top spots. Bob is referring to a hook and line competition.
