PB Halibut

I was out shorediving for Pismo clams in Rosarito Beach Saturday when I spooked a medium size halibut. I immediately stopped the clam digging and began the halibut hunt. The visibility was pretty bad so I was tighter to the sand than I wanted to be but there was no other choice. 30 minutes after seeing the first halibut, a behemoth of a doormat kicks up the sand making the loudest thump sound, disappearing into the haze and breaking my heart in the process. I knew that if I saw another, the outcome would likely be the same. I dove for another hour careful to stay as far from the bottom as visibility would allow. Just as sudden as before, a nice size halibut kicked up and made the thump but I was just quick enough to pull the trigger and drive the shaft clear through. After chasing it down a couple of times, I stabbed it and made my way past the surf and onto the beach. It was quite smaller than the one I spooked earlier but still a very respectable fish! What a fun fish to hunt!!!!

Practically a sand dab. But with a muscular hulk-like build!
