Re: Quick release Gopro mask mount

Hey guys, since there's already a few interested and to not keep them waiting for long (I wouldn't want to wait too ) I'll make an order this week and have them by the end of next week. I'll order a few extra to make the order more worthwhile but if someone is interested and haven't contacted me yet, please do so.
Regards

Re: Quick release Gopro mask mount

I mounted my quick release to my Omer Alien mask last night and couldn't be happier. I went down to Home Depot and got a #6-32 stainless nylon lock nut as we as #6 lock washers. I used a #6-32 1" flat head bolt to attached the mount to my mask. I ended up having to drill a 9/32" hole in the center of the plastic frame to accept the mount. When doing this be careful and go slow as to not hit the silicone behind it. Also the Alien has two pockets that are removable to replace the lenses, make sure you DO NOT drill through these. I placed the lock washer inside of the hex cutout in the mount and the set up was very snug. Do not over tighten as you can crack the mask frame.

I test fit the mask and was pleasantly surprised! The mount is hardly visible in your peripherals. It is a simple well constructed piece and holds the go pro perfectly secure. I am curious how the drag will be in the water but as the current ocean temps in the northeast are around 40 degrees the water test will have to wait until April.

I highly suggest this set-up for anyone looking for a mask mounted gopro set-up. My only suggestion would be to spray it black.

I have attached photos of the end product.

Dive Safe,

Mike

Great!!
I'm glad that you're happy with it!
Yes, it can be spray painted but care need to be taken to not build up thickness in the mount zone as the tolerances are small (fitting is just right).
It can also (probably better) be painted with a permanent marker
I have a friend that prefers his white because he says some fish are drawn to it

Re: Quick release Gopro mask mount

Most mounts are shipped.
Since I ordered a few extra and some people decided not to get one (which is perfectly fine) I got some left...

Cheers

Re: Quick release Gopro mask mount

Ok, so I got the mount and a Cressi Superochio. This will mount to this mask perfectly. Although the mask does not have the best field of view but it is cheap. I also ordered a Riffe Sight mask and this mount will not mount to this as good as the Cressi mask. I am wondering if anyone knows the screw size and is a lock nut needed? Also I am going to get stainless hardware. Just need the size of screw and nut. It is to bad the Riffe mask will not work as it mask awesome viewing. I saw someone installed it but it will be angle downward unless I grind on the mask.

Hi,
screw and nut are M5, but I guess 3/16" should work fine. I haven't used these but someone here might have. It should work fine without the lock nut but it won't hurt using one
Don't grind on the mask, grind the mount...
Let us know how it goes.

Re: Quick release Gopro mask mount

Here are the photos of the quick release mount. I used the Cressi SuperOcchio. It came out pretty good.
