All About Pole Spears & Slings What is it about that traditional method of the early hunter/gatherers under the water? These devices are indeed interesting and effective. |

What is a good beginner pole spear? I'm 5,8 if that matters for size.

Re: Good Beginner Pole Spear??
No such thing as a beginner spear. Just a cheap spear.
Get a crist or gat ku 6 ft and have them rig you a longer band. I would have to ask what your normal viz and targetted species are for a more in depth suggestion |

Re: Good Beginner Pole Spear??
any 6' pole. as for a tip i use a $30 jbl slip tip and land fish from 1-15 lbs. if you are hitting bigger get some thin rope and tie like five or six feet of it to your band to your wrist in case it rips the pole from your hand

A 30' or so tag line attached to the band is a common method. 7 or 8 footer is good all around size...shorter is good if you're hole hunting/bad vis and/or in kelp.

Re: Good Beginner Pole Spear??
As a new owner of a ray odor, I would also recommend one. They are inexpensive for the quality, and for what you get! 50 bucks shipped to my door for a 6' spear, band, flopper tip and 6mm adapter. and it got here quick..
