Thumbs up Florida Freedivers Forensic Files- Gun Bag Reviews from OMER, Riffe, Rob Allen, Armor

Florida Freedivers Forensic Files

Hey guys and gals. Lets talk about some kick butt gun bags today.

Let's look at both of OMER's great and super affordable bag offerings first off. OMER offers a "Standard" Gun Bag and a "Long Deluxe" Gun Bag.

The OMER Standard bag is made of Nylon that's rated at 840 deniers- that's some heavy duty stuff! (if you're curious about what 'denier' means, read below) The Standard size features a Velcro closure that rolls up and clips with straps similar to a roll top dry bag. It also features an internal pocket to carry additional equipment. The exterior OMER logo is printed on the outside of the bag and the closed end opposite of the roll up end features a bright blue rip-stop nylon material insert. It comes with a shoulder strap and there are multiple attachment points for the strap to fine tune how your bag carries. The Standard bag is rated at 160cm long and measured approximately 62".

The OMER "Long Deluxe" speargun bag is also made of 840 deniers nylon. It features three internal separate compartments, each one with its own external access zipper to carry spearguns independently, avoiding any possible tangle of lines or damage to the guns from banging into each other during travel. The Deluxe bag has the same rip-stop nylon like material on the open end and it closes up using a draw string type closure. Each of the 3 separated compartments combine internally at this draw string end (view photos). This drawstring closure allows extra long guns or spear shafts to still fit inside the bag and just poke out of the drawstring closure a bit when cinched shut. The bottom end of bag, opposite of the draw string closure, is wrapped in a super beefy padded non-skid textile to protect the ends of your guns. The Deluxe bag has the exterior text and OMER logo fully stitched into the vinyl instead of printed like the Standard bag. The Deluxe is rated at 170cm long and measured approximately 68".

OMER Standard gun bag sells for just $34.95
OMER Long Deluxe gun bag sells for just $54.95

QUICK TEXTILES LESSON:
What the heck is a Denier you ask?

Denier (pronounced den-YAY) is a unit of measurement that applies to a yarn’s thickness and is commonly used to describe a material's durability in outdoor/camping and tactical industries. Camping packs for example often have fabric with a denier of 500 or more—. The higher the number, the heavier the material for more durability (but also will have larger air gaps between the fibers, which is why it’s so difficult to waterproof a vinyl pack). Clothing uses much finer yarn, so the denier there is often around 70 or so. In tent fabrics you’ll find a mix, depending on where the fabric is used, with a denier of 75 and 150 most commonly found.

Next is the BRAND NEW Armor Speargun Bag. This bag is really quite incredible and packs so many unique features into one compact design. One of the coolest features is that it's expandable from 58" to 68" by unzipping the expansion end. The bag will hold 2 guns, a spear shaft tube and free diving fins inside, and it has 2 external zip-up side pockets to hold masks, bands and other accessories. It has straps inside to hold the guns in place and a padded divider to protect them and isolate them from each other. To additionally protect your guns, the case is padded with 10mm of foam all around within the layers of vinyl.

The bag has short handles at the center that meet and hold together with a Velcro sleeve and also two super cool padded backpack straps that can be pulled from an external storage pocket and clipped to there attachment points when carrying the bag long distances. The armor old school dive helmet logo is stitched into the outside of the bag and there also an ID tag sleeve on the outside along with two compression straps for cinching all your gear up tight so it doesn't bang around. To top it all off, the interior material of the bag is waterproof! The total dimentions of the bag are expandable 58-to-68"L x 7"H x 10"W.

The brand new Armor brand gun bag goes for $103.95 and you better believe we have them in stock.

Riffe has two variants of their speargun travel bag and they're both great. Both of their bags are made of 1000 denier vinyl that's pvc coated for water tight protection Riffe states. Nylon #10 YKK zippers are stitched into the bag and thick end supports are stitched in to prevent spear shaft puncturing. Each bag features a center handle and a padded detachable shoulder strap.

The real magic is on the inside of the Riffe bags. Each bag holds up to three spearguns plus spear shafts and small gear. I think long blades fine would maybe fit in there as well if you're only carrying one or two guns. Each bag has 3 Velcro closure pockets that can store items such as masks, line, etc and stitched in vinyl loops to hold spare shafts along side your gun. The interior also has two tie down straps to hold your gun secure from banging around.

The Riffe is available in a Medium 63″ (160 cm) version for $159.95
and a Large (185 cm) version that costs $174.95

Rob Allen also offers an incredibly high quality transport bag for your spearguns. They offer the bag in 3 different lengths and also in different colorway options. The bags are all made out of the glossy material and feature a great looking barracuda pattern printed onto them. Each bag is available in both blue/silver and black/silver colorways. There are 60", 70" and 80" models available and each offer heavy duty zippers and a center carrying handle.

The interior of the Rob Allen bags is fairly simple, just a large padded area for multiple guns and a stitched in vinyl sleeved sections for extra spear shafts.

The Rob Allen bags sell for...
60" model $138.95
70" model $142.95
80" model $146.95

I hope you found these words and photos fun to read and I hope I can help you make a more educated buying decision when it comes time for you to purchase a gun bag.
