Lake is pretty remote. One boat ramp. Depth is 40 max,viz is 10-25 feet, water gonna be cold. I wouldn't haul your boat. Many record game fish come out of this lake. Our sponsors went nutz this year we have over 7 platinum sponsors. And I know you want to be the coveted Grand Champion this year.

Bluegill, Channel Catfish, Common Carp, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Pumpkinseed , Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Yellow Perch are the fish species you'll find. It only has 13 miles of shoreline. pretty sandy bottom. They say great vis but I would say bring your 70cm gun and your 5mm and your 7mm wetsuit. You can shore dive this lake with some great success.

Re: Box butte reservoir nebraska tournament
Ya, Assasin and Scubadown are both correct. Normally great vis early in the year, cold water for sure. Lake has a lot of vegitation, lots of grass beds and under water channels running through the beds. There is a rocky dam on the east edge of the lake, but other wise you will be swimming around vegitation. Lots of pike, yellow perch, crappie, small mouth, channel cats, rock bass, and many more. One target fish for this lake is going to be the European Rudd. This is an invasive species to this lake, and Nebraska in general. This lake has had them for over 10 years. Size ranges up to 3 pounds or maybe bigger, but the Game and Parks does not want these fish in the lake, so I would like us all to push the kill of this species. Hope to see a good turn out, cant believe its less than a month out already.

Re: Box butte reservoir nebraska tournament
We have put a 3 point bonus per fish on the European Rudd. I highly suggest targeting this fish to be in the running for a top place.

Do the majority of people camp at the lake or stay in town?

Re: Box butte reservoir nebraska tournament
I believe most of us will be camping there. Only town close is Hemingford, small town, but I do believe there is a small hotel there, but not sure. Hopefully we will have good weather!

Re: Box butte reservoir nebraska tournament
I just talked to a local, he gave me a recent report. He just speared a new state record carp,26+lbs.( I will verify with nobleoutdoors.com). Also the carp are up close spawning,a lot of huge carp in right now. He could see the bottom and tons of European Rudd being chased by pike. Get your speed stringers ready, the invasive fish count looking epic.

Re: Box butte reservoir nebraska tournament
Hey guys, I assume this is a team tournament, is that correct? I'm super psyched for this tournament and looking forward to meeting many of you who couldn't make it to last year's Aloha Polespear Tourney at Big Mac. This will be my second tournament ever and my first time wielding a gun in a tournament but I'm expecting good results as my apnea has improved markedly from last year. With that said, is Chad and/or Jordan planning on coming? How about Pat? MillarHighLife?
