The attack did not result in injury as the shark was pushing and bumping the diver!
Direct from the Father who's son was attacked! So this is what really happened I'm sharing so others know the truth minus who gave me this! the shark attack on June the 10 that was my son that was attacked you made the remark that it was sad another boat had to pick my son up the other boat was already untied from the rig fixing to leave I had 3 other divers in the water including my 14 year old grand son I was scrambling to untie the boat when I went to back up the other divers had come up behind the boat trying to get in so I couldn't back up to go get my son without running them over so thank the good lord the other boat was in the process of leaving I just wanted to explain why the other boat got to him first I felt like you were downing me about not getting to my son we try to be very careful and safe out there I hope you never have to feel the terror i felt that that day trying to get to my son while hearing him calling help My continued thoughts on this are still I truly hope you read this truth about what happened! And remember stay together!!! One up one down! Alway be an arms reach from your buddy! Always give the okay! And don't over do it for a fish!!! Crazy!!! Communicate and always watch each other! Just a heads up and be careful in greenwater! It's not always the one you see ya have to worry about! So recap, communication, stay together, and pay attention to your surroundings! This diver should have never ended up by himself! Always back each other up! As a Bluwater Hunter and Green Water when it get sharks someone always watching my back and I there's! Because ya never know when a shark or other dangerous marine life will become the predator! We humans even with a speargun still are not the master of the ocean!

Re: Shark Attack?
Holdfast the person attacked was my buddy. He was getting some last minute Red Snapper action in. After landing a snapper and bringing it back to the boat he was reloading his gun when a 8-10 ft Great Hammer head struck him from behind. He had drifted approximately 30yrds from the boat. A passing boat saw the commotion and picked him up. I will post a video when I get back in town. I do feel badly because I am usually his dive buddy but couldn't be there due to work.

Re: Shark Attack?
I feel like I didn't put enough info in the last post. There were 2 other divers in the water and the current was ripping. We always have somebody onboard but the boat was tied to the rig so there was not enough time to react before the other boat.

Re: Shark Attack?
Wow...sounds like some mayhem went down. Glad to hear that no one got hurt. I haven't ever heard of hammerhead attacks. That would be a new one. It still sounds like a horrifying situation.

Re: Shark Attack?
Thanks for the debrief! Incident does not appear to be a screw up on anybody's part. Just down-n-dirty of how things happened. Interesting how a Tiger turned into a Hammerhead! That's why first person is always best information.

Re: Shark Attack?
The Gulf is no joke. Spearfish out there long enough and you will see some very big sharks that have full intentions of eating you. Even when you haven't seen a shark all day you can dive down and pull the trigger and a ten foot Mako comes out of nowhere or other big shark.

I've dove the Tampa Bay opening for many years. The hammerheads are thick during tarpon season. It's a blessing to ever get more than 6' of vis. I cut my teeth diving it. Maybe ignorance is bliss. I've never had to deal w/ a shark like that. Was the vis so bad I never seen them? Most of the time I was blowing bubbles when diving the edges of the shipping channel. I did have a sea turtle freak me out when snorkeling for stone crabs around the pylons though. I had my bag full of claws when after digging around, look up and see this monster looking at me. IMO, I think he wanted my claws.
