Re: 62" Hybrid build
Then I came back to the mech. I don't have a drill press so I have to do this in multiple steps.
-First I start by reproducing the mech on a thick piece of paper -Then I load a shaft in the track and set the depth of the mech in the mech pocket so that everything is lined up -I tape the paper mech on the side of the blank at the same height -I remove the mech and replace by a scrap piece of wood -I drill the first hole up to the scrap piece of wood -reinsert the mech and use it as guide -drill the 2nd half [then I didn't do exactly this but should have!] -remove the mech and place over the paper one -pin it with the first hole you make -mark the 2nd hole (I was a little bit off because I didn't do this and relied on my paper mech -same steps with hole 2 than with hole 1. The end result is very decent given all this done with a hand held drill. |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
Then I took the measurements to do the line release.
However because I'm working on a really basic router table and holding everything in place with clamps I didn't want to move my fence to start routing the line release as long as I still have operations that are in the center of the blank. so I stopped there. |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
And tonight I sketched out the rough profile of the speargun, position of the push rod now that I know where the mech trigger is and handle is.
I then did a first few passes for the push rod canal (or do you call it track?) and need to finish that tomorrow. forgot to take pictures of that part but will take a few when I finish that part. |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
then I routed the push rod canal. unfortunately my fence moved at that point so it's wider than I wanted. lesson learned. Now I have literally screwed the fence in place and check it's position every time.

Re: 62" Hybrid build
I was aiming for 37mm deep ( I try to speak in inches here but find it easier to work with mm... grew up in the metric system!) and was very proud at being close given my equipment. Until I tried the rod and realized it wasn't deep enough! so routed another 3mm.

Re: 62" Hybrid build
couldn't do much last night as I was busy sanding and oiling and this one.I didn't make it, just purchased it with the hybrid blank. it will be for sale once I have a few extra coats on it and new bands.

Re: 62" Hybrid build
I also decided to push the handle forward a little. It is my first mid handle build, and I have no experience on the topic so I am sticking to what seems to be the norm. when I had to route the push rod deeper I also realized my trigger is going to be litteraly just under the track.
I cannot route that deep so I decide to use my hand held drill and hog out a profile that matches the one I made with the masking tape. I removed the Delrin track before, and you can see the top of the drill actually made it to the track. Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
Another gun I have bought has the trigger welded to the push rod. Until now I had no opinion on the matter but now I am thinking it's actually pretty smart because you avoid removing material , just route the push rod canal and recess the handle and you are done. one pin less, a stronger stock, less work, what's not to like?
will probably try that next time. Sent from my SM-G550T using Tapatalk |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
I know this is probably ambitious given it is only my second build but have decided to try to build a roller. next step will therefore be a roller anchor.
I realized there are rollers that you load in one step and those that you load at the top and at the bottom. If anyone has a few links discussing this I would be interested. I saw a few threads (Tin man's build for instance). Given it is a large gun (62") is it going to be too hard to load if the band's are permanently anchored at the bottom? Re: 62" Hybrid build
stay away from those push rods with triggers built in - it leads to really hard trigger pulls for some reason. The added leverage of having a remote trigger on a pivot- seems to help.
You are selling these guns? You might want to practice a bit before you open up shop- or maybe get some more tools - like a plunge router |

Re: 62" Hybrid build
look into the mortise in handle frames at neptonics - they have them for mid handles with the trigger built in - and it makes installation really easy - putting a remote trigger in - with no experience - is not likely going to come out well

Re: 62" Hybrid build
yesterday I routed the release line pocket.it went well but couldn't proceed further as I haven't received the line release yet so didn't drill a pin hole.
