well seeing its about 80-100 miles from johns pass. (SAINT PETERSBURG)
it how far in the grounds you wanna go.
so just add the distance from boca grande to johns pass to the 80 or so miles and you have a rough estimate. the springs out the have huge aj's and groupers. ARS out there are thick. more than 15 puounds.it sucks that they are out of season. well hope you find out

It is 150 nautical miles or 170 statute miles to the central/eastern grounds and 130 nautical miles or 150 statute miles to the south end of the grounds.

yes it is not that far if you go out of johns pass. or even clearwater.

hope you get out there and shoot some monster fish. try to find a spring, they hold alot of big fish.

save gas also by trailering.
hope you have a good trip looking foward to the report.

Or you could tow up and rent a place in Pasco county with deep water Gulf access. 90 miles to the MG.

Here is a bathymetric Chart from Offshore Hunter that shows the middle grounds. Each square is 5 miles and the depths range from 80 feet in red to 190 feet in dark blue. Each black dot is a dive spot.

AbDiver..have you dove any of the MG spots from Offshore Hunter? I have the program but gave up on it due to hitting nothing but sand on every number. I'd hate to head all the way out there to bad numbers!

I have used and been on boats using it with spectular results. Head to a cluster of numbers and watch your bottom machine. After running for hours and seeing a nice flat smooth bottom the machine will go crazy when your there. Look around and enjoy, the bottom and vis makes the trip a memorable one.

Yes I have dove some of them and they have been good. The structure in the middle grounds is so dramatic that every time I go I find new spots just traveling from one spot to the next.

Re: what is the distance from boca grande pass to the middle grounds

Where is the Middle Ground?

Cedar Key actually has the closest boat ramp to the central Middle Ground. However, Tarpon Springs, a close second, launches far more boats because the Tampa fleet is based nearby. The Middle Ground is within reach of boats from a great many ports along Florida’s Big Bend and down south, from Steinhatchee to Tampa. For many, it’s a run of about 100 miles offshore, a mission that calls for very seaworthy boats.

This large area of natural, productive bottom is roughly bracketed by the following GPS coordinates. If you have “lat-long” numbers inside of this box, chances are they’re Middle Ground numbers. The north corners of the box are 28-45.00'N by 84-13.00'W and 28-45.00'N by 84-30.00'W. The south corners are 28-15.00'N by 83-57.00'W and 28-15.00'N by 84-16.00'W.

this should give you a general area in your gps.
