Port richey report 10/17..killed em
Went out yesterday 10/17 out of port richey for some freedive spearing..Seas were calm, visibility was top to bottom and at least 40-50ft horizontal out to about the 12 mile area. Then it dropped to about 25ft. Water surface temp 78, and cooler as you dove. Wetsuit needed. First dive at pasco wreck steel barge held tons of cudas, at least 10 jewfish, none less than 300lbs, a small cobia and the entire wreck was covered in so much bait you could hardly see it....
Left there and ran north east to an undisclosed location we recently found. Gorgeous reef with ledges and holes. Shot 6 keeper hogs and 1 grouper that measured just over 30" ...could have shot a hogfish or a grouper on every breath. They were thick!!! Only killed enough to have a few good dinners though. Here's a couple pics of us with the catch. Get out there and get ya some! |

I'm sure you miscounted and only shot 5 hogfish.

Gene, I'm a firm believer in following kreel limits. The camera man and I killed less than our limit on both species. But thanks for checking! It's always good to see people who care about the regulations and keep an eye out! I wish more spearos thought like you. Gotta keep our sport alive by following the regs.
