In Maui. Brought my gear!

Aloha!

Looking for local places to go in Maui. Staying in Ka'anapali area. I've read many past threads about charters. I'm looking for where I can drive to and hop in. Hope someone can help!

Mahalo!

Re: In Maui. Brought my gear!

I did B&B scuba. They were pretty good peps and the boat is pretty sweet. Other than that dive near Maui dive shop/Lahaina, honolua bay, makena not far from b&b, black sand beach before Lahaina. Tons of good spots, just keep the weather in mind on locations

Re: In Maui. Brought my gear!

I'm heading over Monday the 12th. Contemplating bringing my gun but would rather just rent or buy a pole spear. Any advice?

Re: In Maui. Brought my gear!

I went spearfishing 4 times in the week I was there and didn't bring a gun, but then you are using something you are not used to. All the polespears I saw there were thin due to the size of the fish there. If you go with a service they will provide the gun too. Spearfishing in Hawaii is really hard, the fish are pretty skiddish. It would be hard to use a polespear there, except for picking up octopuss. You would need to wait on the bottom for about 1.5-2 minutes to get a shot. You can't chase the fish there, they will jet off. There's a hawaii spearfishing and freediving facebook page if you want to check there too.

Ya I experienced exactly what you said. Couldn't get it done with the pole spear I bought. Not bummed though , it's beautiful. I really want to find a lobster more than than fish.
