Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
You are in one of the best places to buy carbon fins. Alchemy's have very good reputation. I'm wearing Pathos and I'm very happy with them. They're kind of soft, but they push you well.

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
update: went with the Moana Hybrid in soft paired with Pathos footpockets. I just spent 10 days on a liveaboard in Madagascar. Love them! legs never felt tired even after kicking against the current to stay on top of the drop-off. Great fin

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
Anyone ever try the Nautilus Siphon carbon fiber fins? I'm currently considering these or the BleuTec Checkmates. Any other new carbons out I should consider?

I actually have both: Bleutec & nautilus siphon jet. Both paired w pathos foot pocket. The nautilus siphon jet is actually fairly similar to the alchemy entry level fins model. Fairly responsive but a tad stiff (both are medium stiffness). I feel fairly comfortable w them for deep drops but for long full day swims, I’ll get ankle fatigue. The bleutec fins I have are also medium stiffness but are much more comfortable for long distance swim, however, I find them to lose their power/kick when I’m deeper than 70ft and trying to ascend. However for long swims, fighting surface current etc... they are my favorite. I was recently in Hawaii and got cought in a current off Kaena point while spearfishing, but was glad to have the bleutec then fighting the current ! I felt fairly safe w them. I love both of these fins, and glad to have them as each are for different purposes now... if I’ll do long full day dives w drops less than 70, then bleutec are my go. For deep vertical drops, then nautilus siphon. Btw I also got a pair of alchemy V3 medium in pathos, and they feel essentially the same as the nautilus siphon jet series. Can’t tell much of a difference Best of luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
super super stoked with Cetma Mantras in Medium.
huge amount of grunt on tap for deep haulage, but still with that ankle- and knee-friendly Euro flex, and that radical 33 degree pre-load really suits me The way their footpockets are built to reduce twist, coupled with the big rails, everything's channelled into forward thrust, feel to me much more efficient than my C4's and Waterways. Havent tried Alchemys Loving Cetma's little Dynami-techs for around the reef, scuba work - anywhere full length blades are a hassle, and for long surface swims, can literally kick all day against current in those things, no blisters [am not wearing socks with either of the Cetma blades] and no knee and ankle soreness. bloody revelation after years of using old-school stiff carbon blades |

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
The 33 degree preload looks a bit like a fin designed to suit somebody with no ankle flexibility and a bicycle kick? However from the carbon it looks like they may run thinner towards the tip, which can be terrific... my battered bluetec blades have that feature. The new JBLs also have that design but I found them overall way too limp. Guy says he has some stiffer ones at the factory but I have not tried them.

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
I think you might want to take that fin out of the sun kavachi, looks like it's melting!

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
I am finishing up the potting on a heart rate logger, planning to do a long fin shootout with a handful of brands once I get it done.

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
Longfin shootout: Ok, heart rate unit is assembled and waterproofed... it measures and logs depth, time, temp, heart beats (total counts plus rate). I will do the first pool test today. Plan is to do identical depths (probably 30M) on a line wearing five different pairs of fins, as well as 50M pool swims, and 25M sprints. I will use as a benchmark the fins I have been diving in exclusively for the last few years, and I will intersperse dives with those fins into dives with the others as a way to track possible diver fatigue.
I need to get some different fins to test! Here is what I am thinking.. #1 (control): my out of production Bluetec Blade. #2: Spearmaster fiberglass #3: A plastic blade #4: Whatever new Bluetec Petros thinks I will like #5: A 'too soft for my taste' carbon fiber blade Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk

Re: Carbon Fin Reviews
You should also try a pair of Cetma Edge in soft.
