Question Gun Build; Wood Info? One stop shop in OC?

All my parts are on oreder from Neptonics and I've been searching for the right place to get the wood for the blank. I know of a couple specialty wood stores that I can get the stock at in OC but they don't do any milling. I do have a table saw but was wondering if there was a spot that might accually alow me to skip a step or by having them cut the planks needed to assemble my blank. I was looking for a one stop shop that I can get the wood I want a pre cut it so all I need to do is glue them and get started. Any help?

You couldn't do better than Neptonic parts, but I can't recommend where to get lumber in OC. Lotsa' info in the gun section on home-builts once you do get your wood.

I figured since it was a local supply issue I would get more views over here.

might try weber lumber and try to seing boatyard pricing. I have been pretty lucky getting boatyard pricinig at ~$17/bf.

Since you are also looking to have someone square up a blank, you could contact a cabinet maker and see if he'd be willing to do it. Another option is to call RAy Klefstad who offers "Gun-block precision straightening (required before machining): $.95 per inch"

I'm assuming you tried Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana? That's the only place I can think of off the top of my head. Not sure they'll be able to cut it but worth calling at least.

Contact Dean at Vector marine products. He has teak that is ready for lamination. Or he can sell you a ready-made blank if you want.

If you are looking for exotic wood other than teak and are feeling adventurous, you can go onto Cook Woods' ebay site, and look through their offerings. You run some inherent risk in buying wood that you can't see in person, but sometimes it's a gamble that pays off handsomely. I got a clean, perfect piece of padauk that - after ripping - yielded two whole laminated blanks for $50. You just have to read the description and dimensions carefully, and cross your fingers. CW is usually pretty honest and upfront about everything they sell. Other sellers sometimes aren't so scrupulous, but I've had good luck with CW. Some woods will have more brilliant color when photographed with a flash, so do have some realistic expections as far as that goes. Padauk, black locust, and osage orange especially will be more brilliantly colored if the photographer wants them to be.

Some stuff I found for sale right now:

Could make a nice hole gun -> http://cgi.ebay.com/BOOKMATCH-PADAUK...item53e705b1a8

aside from cutting the lumber, it should be planed on a planer to the final dimension to ensure the stock is perfectly straight..saws alone are not accurate enough to build a straight gun...also, the wood should be aged a month or two to ensure no moisture is in the wood which can cause it to warp or bow if cut while damp....I age all my wood for 4 or 5 months before making any cuts...Minney's salvage in Costa Mesa just east of the Newport Frwy and 6 blocks above PCH, had a good stock of teak at low prices when I was there 2 weeks ago..

He's not in OC but it might be a good idea to talk to him, give Mori a call, I'm sure the two of you can figure something out. Mori 310-628-8082

It means someone is desperate for a response or interested in "bumping" the thread back to the top of the list.
