Jason, 3 tight 16mm bands will often cause shaft whip on a 7mm shaft, possibly even 7.5mm. Or if in an enclosed track, a lot of friction from the shaft trying to whip. Maybe offer the customer 3 x 14mm bands with the 7.5mm shaft - if he wants 3 bands so badly.
With sharkfin shafts and deep tracks , shaft whip is kind of a myth unless you have supperlong riffe style overhang or allready have a upward bend in the shaft .

Sharkfin put a off center downward force on the shaft making it want to bow down into the track .

Overpowering a shaft with a shallow track it can go left and right .

What most people call shaft whip is really a overpowered gun with muzzle lift or drop flexing the shaft as it leaves the gun making it occilatie as it travels forward

Great point of having it being loaded for some time

Re: 2 or 3 bands for best performance

Andrew, I think "Deeper Perspectives" Podcast showed some of the effect of time on loaded band power. I think the general take away was bands lose power over time. Bands at higher stretch lose more power over time than bands at lower stretch.
