C.A.M.P. (County Aqua Marine Program)

For those of you who live in Volusia County, and have children between the ages of 9 and 15, and who are looking for a great aquatic summer program for your child, this IS the program.

It is basically an open water snorkel training program, all gear is provided (wetsuits, masks, snorkels, fins etc.) Topics and training cover not only water skills and physical training, but also Florida coastal marine and fresh water animals, plants, environment, safety, conservation, and laws. Ratio is strict at 12 students per class per week, and 1 instr. per 4 students.

C.A.M.P. (COUNTY AQUA MARINE PROGRAM)

A fun water camp that offers participants, ages 9 - 15, skilled, aquatic activity focused on environmental impact, education and safety. The program is limited to 12 youth per session. All instructors are certified.

The program offers seven, one-week sessions beginning June 4, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Participants are required to attend classes at a different site each day of the week:

Monday - DeLeon Springs, Tuesday - Blue Spring, Wednesday - Blue Spring, Thursday - Ponce Inlet, Friday - Ponce Inlet and the Marine Science Center. Parents must provide transportation to sites. No camp will be held the week of July 3.

Participants must bring a swimsuit, towel, sun block, lunch and water bottle. The fee is $50 per participant, per week.

The Marine Explorer Camp offers a full week of outdoor and environmentally-oriented activities, including fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, boating and games that teach youths about the water, land and animals of Volusia County.

Dates/ages: 6 - 12
· June 4 - 8 and July 23 - 27 (grades 4 - 6)
· June 25 - 29 (grades 7 - 9)
· July 30 - August 3 (grades 6 - 8)
Time: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: Marine Science Center, Ponce Inlet

There is also a Master Marine Explorer, and Keys Explorer program for alumni.

And lastly as every year, for kids who already have some water skills and want a little more hardcore than summer camp, there is the Junior Lifeguard program for kids between 9-15. The fee is $100 per week and it is a tryout acceptance based program. Interested kids will need to be able to complete the following to be accepted:

* swim 100 yards within 2:15 minutes
* tread water for five minutes
* swim underwater for 10 feet

The course is taught on the beach and concentrates on Lifeguard and Ocean Rescue skills. Please also understand this course requires PT drills of swimming and running everyday. Those who successfully complete the course can apply for a Beach Patrol Lifeguard Explorer spot.
