Does anyone dive in the rain?
Yes I realize this is a dumb question. But I was wondering what it's like. I know many people surf in the rain, so being bored on a rainy day scheduale, the thought crossed my mind. Is the Vis always crappy on a rainy day? I know due to no sun light that's another bummer, and also all the strom drains pumping all that crap must kill Vis. Any thoughts, yes it seems dumb ass but I'd like to do it one day just to know. Also are there any pros to doing this?

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
I jumped in the water in Monterey a couple years ago at the Breakwater when it was pouring rain and the vis was the some of the best I've seen. Not saying that's the case this weekend but it's possible. I think the swell has a bigger effect on the vis than the rain

The rain is not the problem it's the city runoff. The run off usually always makes viz bad and also a health hazard as you can get very sick or infections.

Diving SoCal in the rain is begging for an ear infection at best. Likely an upper respiratory infection and a screaming case of dysentery.

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
Yeah I would imagine Catalina wouldn't be that bad if the swell wasnt bad. That run off sucks. Just have to wait until tues or wens for another wsb hunt.

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
I did it last year about this time. I ended up with an ear infection, sinus infection, and when I went to the ENT he said I was also developing bronchitis. Not worth it.

If it just started raining, no biggie. If its been raining for 8 or more hours I'd imagine the shits hit the ocean... Literally.

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
I was just diving in Australia and a storm hit us. It was absolutely pissing down. One of the best experiences I've ever had, there was 30' of vis underwater and 3' above. It was pelting so hard the rain almost hurt, and with the splash the rain created there was water coming down and then going up for a good 18". Took me 30 min to find my dive buddy and we had floats with dive flags.

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
In central america on the island I was living on I'd do it all the time but here I wouldnt even think about going in after a good day of rain. I don't want some crazy infection.

Re: Does anyone dive in the rain?
Sure, I dive in the rain a lot..... where the diving conditions are good... usually in the tropics where passing rain is common. this from Maui... Just dont do it here with all of the crud runoff.
