Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
...this one time, I shot a white seabass down in So Cal.
I've told that story so many times, f***er has grown to 115lb. and 8 foot long by now. Hey, at least I can laugh about it...

Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Don't worry about it, Josh.
The guy they're talking about lives up here, actually in the 707 and he's either been banned or told this place and it's fearless leader to take a flying fuk over the advertising and favoritism. At least that's what he told me. I sent him the text of the couple guys, reefgeek and tommyt and he told me he fell out of his chair laughing. Seems both these guys have a muddied history with him. One was a bro turned MIA over some money owed from a gun sale, the other he told me was just a loudmouthed jackass that didn't honor his promises and was messaged in no uncertain terms to just leave him out of any conversations, stop holding up other's fish and that he looked forward to seeing him at the year's events. That and he hoped he was driving sober and completed his community service. Whatever. I'm just the messenger, kids. So back to Mulege. Is the town itself pretty set up or is it a wiser idea to stop off in Loreto and do the shopping and truck it over? |

Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Given how south you are in Baja I recommend pesos over dollars, however Santa Rosalia one town north of Mulege was able to accept dollars at most stores. Hope this helps.

Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Everywhere will take dollars, its just that most will only give you 10x1. I preferred to stash usd and hit atms for pesos. Never had a problem in 15 years of travelling south.

Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Hey Robert -
I hear the water is warming up much earlier than usual down there causing the fish to show up extremely early. Any info from your way to support these reports i have been seeing? I have a trip planned to baja norte on the cortez side in early june thinking we would be timing the yellows right to be on the surface. However, these reports have me thinking they'll be there much earlier than usual. Hope you're crushing it down there! Also, looking at flying into loreto and driving up to Mulege sometime soon so trying to figure out the optimal time. Thanks man.

Re: Spearfishing Mulege, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Sorry guys,
I have been busy down here so I have not been online. Yeah, the water warmed up early so the fish have come in early. The yellowtail have been going off this year. They average size has been really nice to around 30 lbs. The bigger ones have been in the low 50s. They have been sitting around 15 to 40'. Amberjack will be in next month. The spot where we go has tons of them. There is schools of 100 that come by. If you want a big fish May is the time for that. The bigger ones sit about 40' on the YT grounds and a 100 lb fish are sitting there. Best way to get a hold of me is by email or USA phone. 949 544 1111 or info@spearfishbaja.com. I live here full time and this is my busy season so I am gone diving most of the days. Website has pics and a lot more coming in the next week when I get some time to update. Thanks for the spelling correction. |
