Build Thread - 52 midhandle
Going to be starting my cutting this weekend and want to start a thread to document.
The current plan is to end up with a 3 band powered gun with a total length of 51-53 Hardware: Ermes DR mechanism AR-15 base and grip 53 7mm single flopper shaft Salvimar 50m Maxi reel The current plan of attack is to get my track, mech pocket, reel relieve and handle relief cut and fitted before using 2 templates to shape my side and top profile before moving to hand tools to add curves tapers and sex appeal. Always looking for feedback and guidance so any tips tricks comments insults etc are all appreciated. Big Shout out to Dean for the parts and answering my endless questions @AoshunSpearfishingSupply Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Mana'squal; 01-31-2019 at 11:15 AM. |

Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle
Muzzle layout. I like to go 1inch back and a quarter inch below my track depth and use a half inch bit and leave the slot undersized and tight.

Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle
by recessing the trigger, you lower the fulcrum for the remote trigger. You will have to drop that handle placement a bit to get a good travel for the pushrod. Or get a slide trigger/rod handle.

Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle
Side profile rough cut of the handle recess, I had no idea how great flush trim bits were before this build.

I just double checked, I have plenty of swing mounting my remote trigger 1/4 below my track height. The Ermes travel distance is only like 1/4 to release as well. Definitely okay there still. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle
Not sure if that lay up picture is accurate, but I don't see a reason to have the Pushrod so much higher than the top of the Handle? Reverse Mechs don't have a ho heap of travel to begin with. I think this is what Malibu John who has built many midhandles is referring to. You want capitalize on the max swing of both remote trigger and trigger sear.

Sorry, that picture is misleading. I see what your both saying. Push rod is inlayed into the base of the handle. Its about an inch above where its going to sit. It will be seated as low as I can get it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Re: Build Thread - 52 midhandle
Here is a better visual of the rod track height.
Also cut my reel seat with a slightly undersized Forstner bit. Dying to get more work done, but work and life keep getting in the way. |
