Re: Most used speargun lenght

Alot everyone uses a different gun in different conditions I still like this poll as it is interesting.
I chose 90cm as it was the gun I learnt on, I love that length and probably use it the most, although when I dive in the ocean I will use a 1.2 or 1.3 or maybe something else.

Yes that would be nice also but I didn't be able to put location in poll (too big poll).

Now we can see mostly spread and used gun lenght, how many people is using rollers and how many people still uses pneumatic guns.

Re: Most used speargun lenght

Where I dive conditions could be very variable. Visibility goes from 10 to 100 feet. Target species vary from 2 pound mangrove snapper to 60 pounds wahoos and cuberas. I've found that a double 16 mm band, 7 mm shaft 110 euro speargun is good for all of it.

Sometimes you have to be a better diver in order to put the fish within range, but diving from a 11' rib, sometimes with other 3 guys, I can't afford to bring more than one gun with me.

That being said, I have a custom 140 wooden gun and a 130 RA sitting in a closet. ...

Re: Most used speargun lenght

Yeah, I know the US has some odd quirks when it comes to units of measurements. The metric system is much more logical, and much easier to work with. All that being said, I prefer the USA's method of measuring a gun length. Overall length is much more applicable (to me) than muzzle to mech. With a muzzle to mech measurement, yes, you find out how much power you get, but the overall length can be much larger, or can vary between manufacturer.

I understand. But you are using effective lenght of a speargun not overall. You are not using even muzzle to mech but muzzle to last pin/notch lenght. That is in the case because your last pin is moved more forward on the shaft.
You can see that on my last gun from my signature, second band i streached very close to reverse mech and back of the gun is moved a little more back just for easier loading.
When you use overall lenght you can have 115cm gun and your band can strech aprox 80cm. On second 115cm gun band can strech 75cm, on third 90 etc. Because of that when you are talking with somebody about guns you don't know how really powerull that gun is. We are trying to achieve as much band straching on a overall small gun. On that way you have powefull and moveable gun with small overall size. That is case with euroguns.

???
Why do you think so?

Edit:
P.S.
It is not opinion. "I mostly use X cm long gun". It is a fact.

I like to think I'm not over compensating with a 120cm^^
Switch to 75cm if I believe it will be poor vis

Don't get me wrong.
My answer was not about how long gun you will use of course.
We were just talking about gun measuring. Read few posts before.
We were talking about overall size and band streching size. Just measuring, not which gun will you use.

Re: Most used speargun lenght

My 48 incher does the job in less than 130ft so I picked that one.

I don't understand why people just can't answer the question without all the hubbub. I use a 64 inch down to 36 depending on condition but my go to on normal days is the 48. We all have more than one gun but a certain one will be dialed into the conditions your shooting in most of the time and therefore will be used more... Seems like a pretty simple question to me.
